June is the most important month for the people of Cusco because it was chosen by the Incas to celebrate the most significant festival of the TAHUANTINSUYO, the grand religious ceremony filled with mysticism, color, and tradition, The Inti Raymi Festival or the Festival of the Sun. To this day, Cusco continues to celebrate this festival every June 24th. Therefore, this all-inclusive Inti Raymi Tour is designed for you to enjoy the most important festival of Cusco, the Inti Raymi.
Every 24th of June, when the sun is at its farthest point from the earth, the Inti Raymi or "Festival of the Sun" is celebrated. It is an ancient Andean religious ceremony in honor of Inti (the Sun God), which takes place on the winter solstice. The "Inti Raymi" was the most important religious festivity during the time of the Incas, and nowadays, this millennia-old ceremony is still represented, with the main stage being the architectural complex of Sacsayhuaman. The Inti Raymi lasts almost a whole day, starting at 7:00 in the morning until approximately 4:00 in the afternoon.
In the early hours of the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel to go to the Temple of Coricancha (QORICANCHA) and witness this ancient "Festival of the Sun," where you can appreciate the beginning of Peru's and the world's most important celebration. You will witness the Imperial procession and a cosmic energy as the Inca emerges and welcomes people from different parts of the world to participate in this festival, declared Cultural Heritage of the Nation, an Official Act, and the Principal Ritual Ceremony of National Identity in 2001, through Law N° 27431.
After that, accompanied by your group and our guide, we will head to the Main Square of Cusco, where the Inca enters through Calle Loreto, an ancestral street with Inca walls and a lot of history. Upon entering Waqaypata (Cusco's main square), the Inca performs the coca leaf ceremony with his wife, the Coya, and his retinue, inviting the general public to head to the esplanade of Sacsayhuaman. There, you will appreciate this imposing Andean festival in more detail from a grandstand, witnessing sacred rituals in honor of the Sun God, along with dances, music, and traditional dress, which will leave you with an unforgettable experience.
EXPERIENCE FIRSTHAND THE MAJESTY OF THIS INCA RITUAL IN HONOR OF THE SUN, WHERE HISTORY COMES ALIVE BEFORE YOUR EYES. DON'T MISS THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE PART OF A TRADITION THAT CONNECTS THE PAST AND THE PRESENT.
To witness the staging of this Sun Festival, we will start the day early, as the Inti Raymi lasts almost the entire day, from 8:00 in the morning until approximately 4:00 in the afternoon.
First, we will pick you up from your hotel around 7:00 in the morning to head to the Temple of QORICANCHA, where you will witness the Imperial procession and that cosmic energy as we watch the Inca emerge and welcome people from all around the world who gather to participate in this special festival declared a Cultural Heritage of the Nation of PERU. Around 8:00 a.m., the ceremony called "Salute to the Sun" begins in front of the Coricancha temple or Garden of Gold. This marks the first staging of the Inti Raymi, where the Inca appears and pays homage to the Sun God, and the first rituals are performed. You will appreciate the entire ceremony there, always with the assistance of the group guide, which will take approximately 1 hour.
After the Welcome ceremony at the Temple of Qoricancha, we will walk to Plaza de Armas to continue with the second staging, where we witness the ceremony called “Encounter of the Times and Coca Leaf Ceremony,” where the Inca is carried along with his wife, the Coya, and his retinue, gathering at the grand Ushnu or ceremonial stage located in Cusco's Plaza de Armas. This ceremony lasts approximately 45 minutes.
After the ceremony in Plaza de Armas, with our guide's assistance, we will head to our transportation that will take us to Sacsayhuaman, where the third staging or main offering ceremony will take place. We will proceed to our reserved seats in the green tribune section. The main ceremony lasts for approximately 3 hours, during which you can witness the representatives of the four suyos paying homage to the Inca and the Sun God.
