This 4 day Choquequirao tour is one of the most beautiful. Most of the people who have already done this tour say that it is tiring, but the effort is always worth it. The landscapes that are appreciated are unique, the ancestral energy is felt from the first step. It is said that Choquequirao is the only attraction in Cusco that can compete with Machu Picchu.
We leave Cusco at 6.00 a.m. in our private transportation and head towards Cachora, an Andean community located 4-5h from Cusco at 2800m/9184 ft, the starting point of the trek where we meet our muleteers and horses.
We leave Chiquisca at 6.00 a.m. heading to Playa Rosalina, which will take about an hour. We will then cross the Apurimac River and begin the climb to Santa Rosa, zigzagging up a steep slope. This climb takes approximately 2 hours, and it is important to leave early so that the heat does not make the hike more difficult than it has to be.
This morning we will enjoy a complete guided tour of the Choquequirao complex: we will visit the upper part (Hanan), and the lower parts (Urin), and some areas still covered with wild foliage and ready to be restored to the way it was in Inca times.
We leave camp after breakfast to begin the two to three hour ascent to Chiquisca, to then make our way back to the Capuliyoca pass, near which we have our lunch. In the afternoon, we continue on our two-hour return trek to Cachora, where a private transport will be waiting to take us back to Cusco.
