The ticket for "Machu Picchu Mountain" allows you to visit the Inca city of Machu Picchu and also explore the famous mountain bearing its name, "Machu Picchu" or "Old Mountain."

Although Machu Picchu Mountain is more extensive in distance and higher in altitude, it is much easier to hike than "Huayna Picchu," offering wider and less steep trails.

Where is Machu Picchu Mountain located?

Machu Picchu Mountain is located opposite Huayna Picchu Mountain, to the southeast of the citadel of the same name. The view from Machu Picchu Mountain is unparalleled, offering a perspective of the Inca city and Huayna Picchu from a higher vantage point.

How to reach Machu Picchu Mountain?

To reach Machu Picchu Mountain, you must purchase the Circuit 3 + Mountain entry ticket in advance. This ticket grants you access to both Machu Picchu citadel and Machu Picchu Mountain. It is advisable to book at least 2 months in advance.

You must reach the Machu Picchu citadel, either on foot or by bus, then walk to the entrance control through Circuit 3, starting from the top part of the citadel. The climb takes between 3 and 4 hours depending on your physical condition.

Where to purchase the ticket for Machu Picchu?

Before purchasing your ticket, first check that tickets are available for the date you plan to travel. Keep in mind that this ticket sells out quickly, so you should make your reservation at least 2 months in advance.

To purchase the ticket and check availability, you should visit the Joinnus website, which is the only platform where you can purchase tickets to Machu Picchu.

The entry times for "Machu Picchu Mountain" are as follows:

  • Group 1 from 7 am – 8 am
  • Group 2 from 8 am – 9 am

Keep in mind that the maximum capacity for Machu Picchu Mountain is 400 people per day, divided into two groups of 200 each. We recommend booking well in advance, at least 1 month prior.

Useful Information about the Machu Picchu Mountain Ticket

  • The entry ticket to Machu Picchu cannot be purchased separately.
  • This ticket does NOT include the classic photo of Machu Picchu.
  • It is only valid for entry on the date selected during booking.
  • The Ministry of Culture of Cusco offers special discounts for minors.
  • The best time to climb to the summit of Machu Picchu Mountain is during the dry season, as rain is less frequent and the weather is ideal. This season spans from April to October.
