Our 7 LAKES AUSANGATE FULL DAY Tour has the ultimate goal of exploring rural paths and the stunning lakes of different colors and shades that result from the thaw of the AUSANGATE MOUNTAIN.

We will also have time to enjoy the thermal waters of Pacchanta, where we can relax and admire the surrounding mountains before indulging in an Andean lunch prepared by local families who will warmly welcome us into their homes.

Day 01

TOUR 7 LAGUNAS

On this tour, we will pick you up at 4:00 a.m. to visit one of the new tourist circuits in Cusco, the trek of "7 LAKES," a journey that will take us 3 hours and 30 minutes southeast of the city of Cusco to the town of Pacchanta, located at 4,200 meters above sea level. Formerly, only those who ventured on the trek to the Ausangate mountain visited this place. Nowadays, it has become one of the most visited places by travelers, attracted by its rural paths and the stunning lakes of different colors and shades that result from the thaw of the majestic mountain of APU AUSANGATE. Completing this trek of the 7 Lakes will take approximately 5 hours, passing through various scenic landscapes with moderate difficulty. Along the way, we'll observe alpacas, llamas, vizcachas (chinchillas), huallatas (Andean geese), foxes, caranchos (Andean hawk), yanarico (Andean marsh raven), and other varieties.

We will return to our base in the town of Pacchanta at approximately 1:00 p.m., where we can enjoy the thermal medicinal pools of Pacchanta, and then savor our lunch made with Andean products.

If you have already acclimatized in Cusco, the reward for this effort in this natural setting, untouched by human hands, will be your best experience!

ITINERARY 7 LAKES AUSANGATE

To start our tour, we will pick you up at 4:00 a.m. from your hotel in Cusco and continue by car to the south of Cusco. We will travel for approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes to reach a town called Pacchanta, located at 4,200 meters above sea level (msnm). This town was previously only visited by expert adventurous hikers looking to cross the Ausangate mountain range. Today, Pacchanta is very popular because it attracts travelers who, in addition to visiting the 7 lagoons, enjoy its hot springs.

The hike won't take more than 5 hours through different scenic landscapes with moderate difficulty, where you'll observe alpacas, llamas, vizcachas (chinchillas), huallatas (ducks), foxes, caranchos (Andean hawks), yanarico (Andean swamp crow), and other varieties.

During this journey, you'll not only discover breathtaking landscapes but also learn about the rich biodiversity of the Peruvian Andes.

  • Lagoon Pucacocha 4,500 meters above sea level (14,763 feet): Lagoon Pucacocha is the first lagoon visited on the tour. It has a reddish color due to the presence of iron sediments. The lagoon is oval in shape and covers an area of approximately 2 square kilometers. This is the first stop on our tour, where we will take photographs and our guide will share local legends and stories.
  • Lagoon Patacocha 4,860 meters above sea level (15,944 feet): This is the next lagoon we will visit on our journey. The peculiarity of this lagoon is its crystal-clear waters, offering incredible views with Ausangate mountain in the background and Callangate on the side.
  • Lagoon Alqacocha 4,750 meters above sea level (15,583 feet): This is another reddish-colored lagoon, somewhat smaller than the previous one, and its color is also due to the presence of iron in its waters. Being located at a high altitude, it can get quite cold, so be prepared. You might even spot wild vicuñas in this area.
  • Qomercocha 4,666 meters above sea level (15,308 feet): Located at an altitude of 4,666 meters above sea level, this lagoon has a turquoise color. The lagoon is rectangular in shape and covers an area of approximately 2 square kilometers. Our guide will explain the wonderful biodiversity and geology that adorns the Peruvian Andes, and you'll learn why this lagoon has a turquoise color. We'll take a short break and continue our journey to the 5th lagoon.
  • Lagoon Orco Otorongo 4,570 meters above sea level (14,993 feet): Our 5th lagoon gets its name because the color of its waters resembles the fur of an otorongo or jaguar. It's not a very large lagoon, in fact, it's one of the smallest on the entire circuit.
  • Lagoon China Otorongo 4,600 meters above sea level (15,091 feet): Lagoon China Otorongo is the fifth lagoon visited on the tour. It is located at an altitude of 4,200 meters above sea level and has a green color. The name would mean the female jaguar, and it is located near the previous lagoon.
  • Lagoon Azulcocha 4,550 meters above sea level (14,927 feet): The final lagoon on the route of the 7 lagoons boasts a deep blue hue in its waters. Its beauty, complemented by the mountainous landscape that surrounds it, is highly appreciated by tourists who often choose this location for capturing photographs.

We will return to our base in the town of Pacchanta at approximately 1:00 p.m., where you can refresh yourself in the medicinal thermal pools of Pacchanta and then enjoy an Andean meal.
