At 2 o'clock in the afternoon, we will pick you up from the hotel and begin our tour of the city, starting with the Cathedral of Cusco that houses in its walls artistic treasures of incalculable value and is considered by many to be the most beautiful in South America. Then we will visit the Qorikancha- this wonderful temple is considered sacred since it housed Inca priests, charged with worshiping the Sun God.
We will continue our guided tour of the archaeological centers located around the city of Cusco; starting with Sacsayhuaman that was built with huge blocks of stone. It is said that its construction lasted more than 50 years. Then we will visit Qenqo, Puka Pukara and finally Tambomachay which was an Inca temple dedicated to worshipping the water. Our tour ends at the Plaza de Armas in Cusco, at approximately 6:00 p.m.
Recomendations:
After the tour, stroll through the Plaza de Armas and the surrounding areas, where you can appreciate the work of the Cusquenian artisan craft stores. Grab a bite at the famous Peruvian cuisine restaurants nearby or relax on the park benches of Plaza de Armas and then take a photo there for memories to last during the warm weather, despite the cold nights of Cusco. And if you like the night vibe around the square you will find many nightclubs and bars filled with tourists and locals who expect to have fun with good music and drinks.
Full day excursion to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Breakfast at the hotel. At 8:00 a.m. we will pick you up from your hotel and start visiting the archaeological center of Pisac located 45 minutes from Cusco. Pisac will give you an idea of the advanced knowledge that the Incas achieved in architecture, some studies reveal that it was not a fortress, but a kind of "royal treasury" owned by the Inca Pachacutec, composed of platforms, domestic structures, ceremonial and aqueducts that provided water for agricultural exploitation. Another good reason to visit Pisac is its craft market, where you can find some unique and authentic memories. At noon we will go to the town of Urubamba where we will enjoy the buffet lunch that will allow you to taste the delicious Peruvian cuisine. Urubamba was one of the main agricultural centers of the Empire of the Incas; nowadays the best corn in the world is harvested there and in the rainy season the fruits of the valley abound, such as peaches, capulí, quince, first quality strawberries, among others.
In the afternoon we will visit the Ollantaytambo fortress that constituted a strategic military, agricultural and religious center to administer and control the Sacred Valley; this is deduced by the constructions that presumably were designed for agricultural deposits and for military use as walls and watchtowers (probably to protect themselves from the jungle ethnic groups). This archaeological site comprises a series of superimposed terraces, showing the impressive and large stone blocks finely carved and located on the upper terrace. After making our tour, we will walk to the train station that is very close; we will board the train that will take us to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu town), where we can rest and prepare to visit the next day the Inca city of Machu Picchu.
Recomendations:
We suggest suitable footwear, you will climb stairs with many steps. Bring a small backpack, camera, wear a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, and bring a water bottle. Afterwards, we will continue our trip to the town of Maras and the famous salt mines; first we will visit the Maras Temple, which is an outstanding colonial church made of adobe with typical religious architecture, where you can find paintings from Cuzco that represent the Last Supper, Jesus and the apostles. It also shows beautiful mansions with shields of Indian nobles, reflecting an era of prosperity during the colonial period. Finally we arrive at the Salineras de Maras, which are an impressive salt complex, already exploited since the Inca era. At present the mines are still working and the farmers of the area sell the mineral that is much sought after in the markets, the place is also an important tourist destination in Cusco.
