After the tour, CuscoPeru.com recommends taking a walk around Plaza de Armas and its surroundings, where you can appreciate the work of Cusco artisans in craft shops. You can also taste the famous Peruvian cuisine in nearby restaurants, or simply take a break on one of the benches in Plaza de Armas and then take the classic photo for the memory, all in a warm atmosphere despite the cold Cusco nights. And if you like nightlife, around the square, you will find many discos and bars.
We will start our day with breakfast at your hotel. At approximately 7:30 a.m., we will pick you up from your hotel and begin by visiting the Archaeological Center of Pisac, located 45 minutes from Cusco. Pisac will give you an insight into the advanced knowledge that the Incas achieved in architecture during their time. Some studies reveal that it was not a fortress but a kind of "royal estate" during the government of Inca Pachacutec, consisting of terraces, domestic structures, ceremonial spaces, and aqueducts that provided water for agricultural exploitation. Another compelling reason to visit Pisac is its craft market, where you can find unique and authentic souvenirs.
At noon, we will head to the town of Urubamba to enjoy a buffet lunch that will allow you to taste delicious Peruvian cuisine. Urubamba was one of the main agricultural centers of the Inca Empire. Currently, the best corn in the world is cultivated here, and during the rainy season, the valley is filled with native fruits such as peaches, capulí, quince, and top-quality strawberries, among others.
In the afternoon, we will visit the Fortress of Ollantaytambo, which was an agricultural, religious, and astronomical center. This is deduced from the Colcas, deposits of agricultural products for preservation based on the wind system (agricultural deposits), and from its finely carved stone blocks strategically placed towards the Sun God to manage and control the Sacred Valley. This archaeological site comprises a series of superimposed terraces, displaying impressive large stone blocks located on the upper terrace. It is in Ollantaytambo that we will board the train to Aguas Calientes to be able to visit Machu Picchu early the next day.
