Day 1
The Palcoyo Mountain Tour from Cusco begins with pickup from your hotel between 4:00 and 5:00 a.m. Once the group is complete, we will travel south by tourist transportation through high-Andean landscapes, where natural scenery and, in some sections, local fauna can be seen.
After approximately 2 hours of travel, we will arrive in the community of Cusipata. Here, we will stop at a local restaurant for an Andean buffet breakfast before continuing the journey.
We will then travel toward Palcoyo, stopping in Checacupe to visit its three historic bridges: the Inca bridge, the Colonial bridge, and the Republican bridge. This stop combines cultural elements with Andean scenery and offers an opportunity to take photographs before continuing the route.
From Checacupe, we will continue toward the community of Palcoyo. At the starting point, we will prepare for a moderate hike of approximately 1 hour each way. The route reaches an altitude of more than 4,600 m (15,091 ft) and passes through the colorful landscapes of Palcoyo Mountain, a less crowded setting surrounded by different mountain ranges.
Passengers who wish to extend the experience may optionally continue to the Stone Forest. This natural attraction features distinctive rock formations and panoramic views of the Andean surroundings. The visit is optional and depends on the passenger’s decision.
After the visit, we will return along the same path to the tourist transportation and begin the journey back. We will stop again in Cusipata for a buffet lunch at a local restaurant.
Finally, we will continue to Cusco, arriving at approximately 4:00 p.m. The Palcoyo tour ends at Plaza Regocijo in Cusco’s Historic Center, close to the hotel area.

The hike was much easier than we imagined, and the views were incredible, especially the views of the snow-capped Ausangate mountain. But what surprised us the most was the Stone Forest, with its impressive rock formations and completely different landscape. It was one of those places where you just want to stay for a while, take in the scenery, and take lots of photos.
The tour was very well organized, from the transportation to breakfast and lunch. We also really appreciated the attention from the whole team, especially Carlos, Efrain, and Joel, who made the experience even better. If you want to visit a rainbow mountain with spectacular landscapes and without the crowds you can find on other routes, I really recommend Palcoyo. 5 stars for CuscoPeru.com!
