At the appropriate time, we will transfer you to the airport to board your departure flight.
In the afternoon, at approximately 1:00 PM, we will pick you up at your Hotel and start our city tour, starting with the Cathedral of Cusco, that houses in its walls invaluable artistic treasures and is considered by many the most beautiful in South America. Then we will visit the Qorikancha: this wonderful temple is considered sacred, since it harbored Inca priests in charge of worshipping the Sun God. We will then continue our guided tour of the archaeological centers located around the city of Cusco, starting with Sacsayhuaman. This Quechua name means "satisfied falcon" and this place was built with huge stone blocks. In the time of the Incas, it was called the "house of the sun" and was a religious center of great importance in local tradition.
Afterwards, we will visit, Kenko- Quechua word meaning "Labyrinth" named as such by the Spanish for its labyrinthine underground galleries and for its small canals carved in zigzag.
We will continue our tour visiting Puka-Pukara, called the Red Fortress, which is built with stones in that color tone and finally, we will arrive at Tambomachay which was an Inca temple to worship the water. Our tour ends at the Plaza de Armas of Cusco, at approximately 6:00 pm.
After the tour, stroll through the Plaza de Armas and surrounding areas, where you can appreciate the work of the Cusqueñian artisan craftsmen in their craft stores. Grab a bite at the famous Peruvian cuisine restaurants nearby or relax on the park benches of Plaza de Armas and then take a photo there for memories to last through warm weather, despite the cold nights of Cusco. And if you like the feeling of the night around the square you will find many nightclubs and bars filled with tourists and locals who expect to have fun with good music and drinks.
This is a full day excursion to the Valley of the Incas. It starts with breakfast at the hotel. At 8:00 AM we will pick you up from your Hotel and start visiting the archeological center of Pisac, located about 45 minutes from Cusco by private transport. Pisac will give you an idea of the advance knowledge the Incas must have had in order to realize this architecture; some studies reveal that this was not a fortress, but a kind of “real estate” owned by the Inca Pachacutec, composed of platforms, domestic structures, ceremonials and aqueducts that provided water for agricultural exploitation.
Another good reason to visit Pisac is its traditional market where you can find some unique and authentic memorabilia. At noon we will head to the town of Urubamba where we will enjoy the buffet lunch, a sample of the delicious Peruvian cuisine. Urubamba was one of the main agricultural centers of the Inca Empire.
Currently, the best corn in the world is harvested here and during the rainy season the fruits of the valley are abundant, such as peaches, capuli, quince, strawberries of the highest quality among others.
In the afternoon, we will visit the fortress of Ollantaytambo, which was a strategic military, agricultural and religious center to manage and control the Sacred Valley of the Incas; this is deduced from the constructions that presumably were for agricultural deposits and for military use as watchtowers (probably to protect themselves from jungle ethnic groups). This archaeological site comprises a series of superimposed terraces, showing impressive and large stone blocks finely carved and placed on the upper deck.
After we will board the train to Aguas Calientes to visit Machu Picchu early the next day
We suggest you bring suitable shoes or sneakers, as you will climb many stairs
Take a small backpack with your camera; bring a hat, sunscreen, mosquito repellent and a bottle of water
In Urubamba you will enjoy a delicious buffet lunch, where we invite you to try the corn from the Sacred Valley (considered by many the best in the world).
You will have a very early breakfast at your hotel. At 5:50 a.m. we will transfer you to the bus station to go up to the Archeological Sanctuary of Machu Picchu. The trip will take 25 minutes; finally, we will arrive to appreciate the impressive sunrise in the citadel of Machu Picchu. We now begin the guided tour in one of the 7 Wonders of the Modern World: Machu Picchu.
Our guide will explain about the history and architecture of the citadel; you will be amazed at the Inca buildings and the natural environment that surrounds them. After the tour you will have free time to continue exploring and take the pictures to remember your visit. We return by bus to Aguas Calientes and we will have time to have lunch, rest and get to know the town of Aguas Calientes. In the afternoon we will board the train to Ollantaytambo station; here, our staff will be waiting for you to take you to your hotel in Cusco.
This day starts in Cusco at your Hotel; we will pick you up at 8:00 am and then we will head to the village of Maras and the experimental agricultural terraces of Moray.
First, we will reach Moray; according to the historians Moray constructions were an important agricultural laboratory of the Inca Empire.
Since its platforms are built with their respective irrigation canals and each of one constitutes a microclimate. What is striking is the great difference in annual average temperature between the top and bottom of the depressions, a difference that reaches up to 15°C. (59°F.) In Moray, the Incas created their own microclimate to make plants adapt to this altitude. After this, we will pay a visit to the town of Maras and the salt mines.
We will visit the Temple of Maras, a prominent colonial church made of adobe with typical religious architecture where you can find Cuzqueñian paintings depicting the Last supper, Jesus and the apostles.
It also shows beautiful mansions with shields of noble Indians, reflection of an era of prosperity for the colony. Finally we will arrive at the Salineras de Maras, an impressive salt complex, which was already exploited since Inca times. Nowadays the salt mines are still running and local farmers are still selling the salt, which is very popular. Today, the place is an important tourist destination in Cusco.
We return to Cusco at 2:00p.m. approximately and we will have the afternoon free to walk through the city of Cusco and streets.
Breakfast at the hotel, at the appropriate time, transfer to the airport for your departure flight, to conclude this Machu Picchu tour of five days
