Machu Picchu Bicycle Tour

CUSCO – BIKING YANAMAYO OCOBAMBA – QUILLABAMBA

We start, picking you up from your hotel in Cusco at 5:00 am, we will travel by car for 2 hours, passing through the town of Ollantaytambo, where we will enjoy breakfast. We will continue along a road that crosses the Patacancha valley until we reach the Yanamayo pass.

At 10:00 am, we will descend by bicycle to the town of Ocobamba, traveling approximately 32 km. We will have lunch in Ocobamba around 1:00 pm and then, our transportation will take us to the town of Quillabamba where we will have dinner (8:00 pm) and spend the night.

QUILLABAMBA - BIKING ABRA SANTA ROSA - SANTA TERESA - COCALMAYO THERMAL BATHS

Our day will begin at 7:00 am with breakfast, then, around 8:30 am, we will travel by car from Quillabamba to the pass of Santa Rosa. The trip lasts approximately 1 hour.

Once at the starting point, we will descend through a path through the jungle for approximately 15 km until we reach the town of Santa Teresa where we will have lunch. After settling in our lodging (5:00 pm), our transportation will take you to the thermal baths of Cocalmayo. We will finish the day around 8:00 pm.

HYDROELECTRIC HIKE TO AGUAS CALIENTES

On day 3, after breakfast, (8:30 am) we will be transported by car to the hydroelectric plant (approximate travel time 45 min). The hydroelectric plant is the starting point of the hike to Aguas Calientes. Arriving at Hidroelectrica, we will walk for 2 hours and 45 minutes to the town of Agus Calientes, depending on your physical condition, the time of the walk may vary.

On the way, we will visit the Mandor waterfalls for approximately 45 minutes. We will have lunch in Aguas Calientes and have the afternoon free.

VISIT TO MACHU PICCHU

This day, we will finally visit the Inca city of Machu Picchu, your guide will pick you up (6:00 am) from your lodging to go up by car from the town of Aguas Calientes to the top of the mountain where Machu Picchu is located. After checking in, we will have a guided tour for approximately 2 hours. Around noon (12 pm) we will descend from Machu Picchu by car to Aguas Calientes, where we will enjoy our lunch.

Around 2 pm we will return by train to the town of Ollantaytambo, where our mobility will be waiting for you ready to return you to your hotel in Cusco (6:30 pm) culminating our services.

Machu Picchu Bike Tour Itinerary

DAY 1: CUSCO - BIKING YANAMAYO OCOBAMBA - QUILLABAMBA

We will start our tour by picking you up from your hotel at 5:00 a.m. and then we will go to the town of Ollantaytambo, crossing the Sacred Valley of the Incas by car. In Ollantaytambo we will have breakfast for 45 minutes and then we will continue our way to the Yanamayo pass. We will pass through the communities of Patacancha and Willoq, where you will be able to observe the people with their typical dress of the area.

(10:00 am) Arriving at the Yanamayo pass we will get ready for the descent, we will put on our protective equipment and the guide will give us a safety talk before using our bicycles. We will descend by a road that begins in the Andes of Cusco, 30 km of descent is what awaits us the journey culminating in the jungle. Along the way we will find beautiful waterfalls, fruit trees, coca and coffee crops. We will stop at some points to take a closer look at the coffee plantations.

(2:00 pm) We will arrive to the community of Ocobamaba, we will have lunch and rest the body, we will continue our way by car until we arrive to a small town called Quillabamba. In this place we will have dinner (8:00 pm) and spend the night.

DAY 2: QUILLABAMBA - BIKING ABRA SANTA ROSA – SANTA TERESA - THERMAL BATHS OF COCALMAYO

On day 2 we will start at 8:30 in the morning climbing a mountain near Quillabamba, we will drive about 45 minutes to the top in the Santa Rosa pass. Once we are at the starting point we will put on our protective gear and check our bikes. We will descend down the mountain among fruit crops such as banana, cocoa, papaya, mango and coffee. The bike tour has a distance of 15 kilometers from the starting point to the end.

In certain stretches, we will stop and taste some of the fruits of the area (depending on the season). We will continue cycling along the trail, the temperature will be from 23 C° to 30 C° depending on the time of the year. We will arrive at the village of Santa Teresa (2 pm) where lunch will be waiting for us. In the evening (6 pm) we will have dinner and then we will go to the thermal baths of Cocalmayo where we will be able to relax in its warm waters. Overnight in the town of Santa Teresa.

DAY 3: AGUAS CALIENTES HYDROELECTRIC HIKE

In the morning at 8:30 am, after breakfast we will go by car to the hydroelectric plant (45 minutes by car), where we will start our hike to Aguas Calientes. This road is not steep at all, on the contrary, it has no ups and downs, which makes your hike easier. It is next to the railway line between a forest of the jungle and the Vilcanota River. We will walk for about 2 hours and 30 minutes, if we are lucky we can see wildlife activity such as the famous Cock of the Rock.

We will pass by a point where we will find some waterfalls inside the forest (Mandor waterfalls), we will have the opportunity to visit them and capture our experience with pictures and videos (1:00 pm) Finally we will arrive to the town of Aguas Calientes where we will have lunch, then you will be transferred to your hotel. You will have the afternoon free.

The last day of our journey we will visit Machu Picchu, our guide will pick you up from your hotel (6:00 am) and we will go to the bus station in Aguas Calientes. We will board the bus and we will have a trip of 45 minutes approximately to the historic sanctuary of Machu Picchu. We will enter the complex and our guide will take you on a tour of the citadel telling you about the history and culture of the Incas.

There will be the opportunity to take pictures at various points of the Inca citadel, the visit will last approximately 2 hours. After our visit, we will return to the town of Aguas Calientes, where we will have lunch (1:00 pm). After lunch we will board the train (2:45 pm) and return to Ollantaytambo station where our mobility will be waiting to transfer you to the city of Cusco, culminating our trip.
