Machu Picchu Bicycle Tour

Cusco – Biking Yanamayo Ocobamba – Quillabamba

We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 5:00 Am and travel by car for 2 hours, passing through the town of Ollantaytambo, where we will enjoy breakfast. We will continue along a road that crosses the Patacancha Valley until we reach the Yanamayo Pass.

At 10:00 AM, we will begin our bicycle descent to the town of Ocobamba, covering approximately 32 km. We will have lunch in Ocobamba around 1:00 p.m., and then our transportation will take us to the town of Quillabamba, where we will have dinner at 8:00 p.m. and spend the night.

Our day will begin at 7:00 AM with breakfast. Then, around 8:30 AM, we will travel by car from Quillabamba to the Santa Rosa Pass. The trip takes approximately 1 hour.

Once at the starting point, we will descend along a jungle path for approximately 15 km until we reach the town of Santa Teresa, where we will have lunch. After settling into our lodging around 5:00 PM, our transportation will take you to the Cocalmayo hot springs. We will finish the day around 8:00 PM.

Hydroelectric Hike To Aguas Calientes

On day 3, after breakfast at 8:30 AM, we will be transported by car to the hydroelectric plant (approximately 45 minutes of travel). The hydroelectric plant is the starting point of our hike to Aguas Calientes. Upon arriving at Hidroelectrica, we will walk for approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes to the town of Aguas Calientes. Depending on your physical condition, the duration of the walk may vary.

Along the way, we will visit the Mandor Waterfalls for approximately 45 minutes. We will have lunch in Aguas Calientes and enjoy a free afternoon.

Visit To Machu Picchu

Today, we will finally visit the Inca city of Machu Picchu. Your guide will pick you up from your lodging at 6:00 AM to drive from the town of Aguas Calientes to the top of the mountain where Machu Picchu is located. After checking in, we will begin a guided tour of Machu Picchu that will last approximately 2 hours. Around noon, we will take the bus back to Aguas Calientes, where we will enjoy lunch.

Around 2:00 PM, we will return by train to the town of Ollantaytambo, where our transportation will be waiting to take you back to your hotel in Cusco. We will arrive around 6:30 PM, marking the end of our services.

Machu Picchu Bike Tour Itinerary

DAY 1: Cusco — Biking Yanamayo Ocobamba — Quillabamba

We will start our tour by picking you up from your hotel at 5:00 AM, then we will drive to the town of Ollantaytambo, crossing the Sacred Valley of the Incas. In Ollantaytambo, we will have a 45-minute breakfast before continuing our journey to the Yanamayo Pass. We will pass through the communities of Patacancha and Willoq, where you will observe the locals in their traditional attire.

At 10:00 AM, upon arriving at the Yanamayo Pass, we will prepare for the descent. We will put on our protective gear, and the guide will give us a safety briefing before we begin cycling. We will descend along a road that begins in the Andes of Cusco, with 30 km of descent awaiting us, ending in the jungle. Along the way, we will pass beautiful waterfalls, fruit trees, and coca and coffee crops. We will stop at certain points to take a closer look at the coffee plantations.

At 2:00 PM, we will arrive at the community of Ocobamba, where we will have lunch and rest. Afterward, we will continue by car to a small town called Quillabamba. Here, we will have dinner at 8:00 PM and spend the night.

DAY 2: Quillabamba — Biking Abra Santa Rosa – Santa Teresa — Thermal Baths Of Cocalmayo

On day 2, we will start at 8:30 AM by driving up a mountain near Quillabamba. The drive will take about 45 minutes to reach the top of the Santa Rosa Pass. Once we arrive at the starting point, we will put on our protective gear and check our bikes. We will descend the mountain through fruit crops such as bananas, cocoa, papaya, mangoes, and coffee. The bike tour covers a distance of 15 kilometers from the starting point to the finish.

At certain points, we will stop to taste some local fruits (depending on the season). We will continue cycling along the trail, with temperatures ranging from 23 °C to 30 °C, depending on the time of year. We will arrive in the village of Santa Teresa at 2:00 PM, where lunch will be waiting for us. In the evening, at 6:00 PM, we will have dinner and then head to the Cocalmayo hot springs, where we can relax in its warm waters.

DAY 3: Aguas Calientes — Hydroelectric Hike

In the morning at 8:30 AM, after breakfast, we will drive to the hydroelectric plant (a 45-minute drive), where we will start our hike to Aguas Calientes. This trail is not steep at all; in fact, it is flat, which makes your hike easier. It runs alongside the railway line, between a jungle forest and the Vilcanota River. We will walk for about 2 hours and 30 minutes, and if we are lucky, we might see wildlife such as the famous Cock of the Rock.

We will pass by the Mandor Waterfalls inside the forest, and we will have the opportunity to visit them and capture our experience with pictures and videos. Around 1:00 p.m., we will continue our hike. Finally, we will arrive in the town of Aguas Calientes, where we will have lunch. You will have the afternoon free to explore or relax.

DAY 4: Visit Machu Picchu

On the last day of our journey, we will visit Machu Picchu. Our guide will pick you up from your hotel at 6:00 AM, and we will head to the bus station in Aguas Calientes. We will board the bus for a 45-minute ride to the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu. We will enter the complex, and our guide will take you on a tour of the citadel, sharing the history and culture of the Incas.

You will have the opportunity to take pictures at various points of the Inca citadel. The visit will last approximately 2 hours. After the visit, we will return to the town of Aguas Calientes, where we will have lunch at 1:00 PM. After lunch, we will board the train at 2:45 PM and return to the Ollantaytambo station, where our transportation will be waiting to take you back to Cusco, concluding our journey.
