City tour: This tour lasts around 5 hours in Cusco. Entry times are crucial because they vary by ticket type. Upon entering the Machu Picchu citadel, every visitor must present their entry ticket, the official document issued by the INC.
The National Institute of Culture (INC) manages this Wonder of the World, issues Machu Picchu tickets, and sets the site’s daily visitor limit.
Because of the large number of visitors—especially in the morning—long queues used to form, which affected the visitor experience.
In 2018, the Peruvian government, through the INC, adjusted entry times and capped the number of visitors per time slot. These changes have helped preserve the site for future generations.

To preserve the archaeological park and improve visit management, MINCETUR, the Ministry of Culture, and SERNANP issued new rules under Ministerial Resolution No. 000207-2024-MC, which have been in force since June 1, 2024.

The guided tour service at Machu Picchu involves the accompaniment of an official tour guide throughout your stay at the archaeological site. The duration of this guiding service depends on the type of circuit chosen, but it generally lasts approximately two hours. The cost of this service is NOT included in the entry ticket.
Official tour guides are required to complete a professional degree in Tourism and undergo an accreditation and evaluation process by local authorities before being allowed to offer guiding services at Machu Picchu.
The Machu Picchu ticket does not include the guiding service; however, it is recommended to enter the citadel with an official tour guide to enhance your experience and gain a better understanding of the site.
