Thanks to ashlar which is what they used to build in this city, its churches have special features in the outside view. Visiting them is a duty of every good tourist.


San Francisco Church
San Francisco Temple and Convent of San Francisco were built in the sixteenth century. The church has a rectangular plan, three naves, a transept and chancel.

The Basilica Cathedral of Arequipa
It is considered one of the early seventeenth century religious monuments in the city. It was built of volcanic stone in neo-Renaissance style with French influence.

La Compania de Jesus Church
Set in the historic center of the city of Arequipa, is the symbol not only of art but of plateresco mestizo Latin America, where the grotesque on the ashlar is the symbiosis of indigenous and Spanish cultures.

San Agustín Church
It is an excellent architectural expression of baroque style of the seventeenth century. The façade dating from the first half of the eighteenth century and is considered one of the best of his era.
