It was built over 36 years by the efforts of the whole community, being a participant in the history of the city of Ica. Its architecture is unique in the world and is a beautiful building that deserves to be preserved for future generations.
The style of this temple is of neoclassical architecture with Latin cross plan. It is characterized by three portals with brick arches. The story goes back to the old chapel building on May 13, 1556, when not yet had founded the city of Ica and was then known as Villa de Valverde.
Inside there is a great dome supported by huge columns, which highlight the image of the Black Christ, known as the Lord of Luren, which is a virgin looking him up and embraced the weeping Magdalene statue in the lower the tree. The Christ is about 1.80 m and is human hair.
The festival is held in October and Easter, performing a huge procession.
