Sacred Valley 1 day tour: Pisac, Ollantaytambo and Chinchero

The sacred valley tour is a full-day route through some of the best-known locations along the Urubamba River valley. Starting in Cusco, the trip visits the Pisac archaeological site and market, continues to Urubamba for a buffet lunch, and reaches Ollantaytambo before returning through Chinchero.

During this sacred valley tour from Cusco, you will see agricultural terraces, stone structures, historical pathways and towns where local traditions remain part of daily life. Your guide will explain the importance of the valley during the Inca period and the relationship between its geography, agriculture and road network.

The experience includes hotel pickup, tourist transportation, a professional English- and Spanish-speaking guide, admission to the listed sites and buffet lunch. Departure is in the morning, with the return to Cusco scheduled for around 6:30 p.m.

Highlights

  • Visit the Pisac archaeological site and see its terraces across the mountainside.
  • Walk through the Pisac market and browse locally made crafts.
  • Enjoy a buffet lunch at a tourist restaurant in the Urubamba Valley.
  • Explore Ollantaytambo's terraces, stone structures and water channels.
  • Visit Chinchero and learn about its history, agriculture and textile traditions.

Itinerary

Our team will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco between approximately 7:00 and 7:30 a.m. The exact time will be confirmed before the tour according to the location of your accommodation and the service booked.

You will leave Cusco in tourist transportation and begin the journey toward Pisac. Along the way, your guide will introduce the Sacred Valley, the Urubamba River and the agricultural importance of the region.

Pisac archaeological site

The first visit is the Pisac archaeological site, located above the modern town. The complex includes terraces, structures and paths distributed across the mountain.

Your guide will explain how the terraces helped make use of steep slopes and expand the land available for agriculture. You will also learn about the functions associated with different parts of the site and see the valley from the authorized visitor areas.

The visit includes steps and uneven ground, so walk at a comfortable pace and follow the guide's instructions.

Pisac market

After the archaeological site, you will travel down to the town of Pisac and visit the market area. Stalls may offer textiles, ceramics, jewelry, paintings and other products made in the region.

The number of stalls and the level of activity can vary by day, season and local conditions. Purchases are optional and must fit within the meeting time established by the guide.

Buffet lunch in Urubamba

The sacred valley day tour continues to Urubamba for lunch at a tourist restaurant. The service includes a buffet with a selection of Peruvian dishes and side options.

Travelers with allergies, dietary restrictions or vegetarian preferences should inform the team when booking so that available alternatives can be checked with the assigned restaurant.

Ollantaytambo archaeological site

After lunch, you will travel to Ollantaytambo. The site occupies a strategic location in the valley and is known for its terraces, stone structures and water channels.

The visit involves climbing a series of steps to reach the main visitor areas. Your guide will explain the construction techniques, the organization of the complex and Ollantaytambo's importance within routes connecting the Sacred Valley to other regions.

The terraces also provide views of the town and surrounding mountains. The exact extent of the visit depends on the group's pace and current access conditions.

Chinchero and textile traditions

On the way back to Cusco, you will visit Chinchero, a town associated with Andean agriculture and textile production. Remains of Inca terraces and structures stand alongside buildings from later periods.

Your guide will explain the site's history and the continuity of local traditions. Depending on the day's operation, the visit may include an explanation of fibers, natural dyes and weaving techniques. This activity is subject to local arrangements and should not be presented as guaranteed without prior confirmation.

Return to Cusco

After Chinchero, you will begin the return journey. Arrival in Cusco is scheduled for around 6:30 p.m., although timing can vary because of traffic, weather, road conditions and the pace of the group.

Experiences from our travelers in the Sacred Valley

LARISSA’S EXPERIENCE EXPLORING THE SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS

It was an excellent experience with CuscoPeru.com! From the very beginning, the team was very attentive, quickly answering our questions, giving us recommendations on what to bring, and helping us organize every detail of the tour. We also appreciated the punctuality throughout the entire service.

We took a one-day tour to the Sacred Valley with friends, and it was a very special experience. Our guide, Rómulo, accompanied us throughout the journey, sharing information about the history and the places we visited, while Juan Carlos and Ángel, our driver, made the entire route comfortable and enjoyable. We truly enjoyed the landscapes, learned more about the culture of this wonderful place, and took home great memories of our visit to the Sacred Valley. We highly recommend this agency!

Tudo perfeito Eu e meu marido adoramos o passeio.

Cusco & Machu Picchu It was very well done. CuscoPeru did a fantastic job with my tour. Efrain picked me up on time at the airport. Both Julio and Henry did a great job with super information the first 2 days. The buffet lunch the tour provided was top shelf, including sushi. On day 3 Eddy did a wonderful job explaining all of Machu Picchu. My tour was for Circuit 1, but he somehow managed to get me on Circuit 3 as well. It was a day I will never forget. All hotel accommodations were very comfortable. I would recommend this tour to anyone

Highly recommended The trip was great! Our driver Roselito picked us up from the hotel and was very knowledgeable in the history of region, took us on the scenic route. Once we got on the train, it included snacks and drinks (water, coffee, or tea). Once we got to Aguascalientes, we were met by our tour guide Renato and Norma. Norma made sure we met our tour guide Renato, and made sure we got on the bus. Once we arrived at the entrance of Machu Pichu, we were met by our tour guide Renato. It was a pleasant experience. Pictures don’t do the site justice. Our tour guide Renato gave us an overview of the site and significance of the layout. I highly recommend booking with the company, and if possible make sure you get Roselito as your driver from Cusco to the train station.

Fun and exciting! I had a custom 9-day tour. I told the booking agents the things I wanted see and do in Peru and they came up with an itinerary. I really enjoyed all the day trips and when I needed to make an adjustment during the tour, Efrain (my coordinator) was right on it. He was always available to answer my questions, which really made me feel comfortable travelling alone. Also, the tour guides and drivers were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I highly recommend CuscoPeru to anyone who wants interesting/fun tours and/or needs a little assistance in planning what to do!

Frequently asked questions about the Sacred Valley tour

The 1-day Sacred Valley tour allows you to discover some of the most representative places of the ancient Inca territory, combining stunning Andean landscapes, archaeological sites, and traditional villages. During the tour, you will visit attractions such as Pisac, its traditional market, Ollantaytambo, and other highlights of the Sacred Valley. In this section, you will find clear answers about the itinerary, schedules, transportation, places you will visit, and other important details to help you better organize your Sacred Valley experience.

Do I need to buy the Cusco Tourist Ticket separately?

You do not need to purchase it separately for this service. The published price includes admission to Pisac, Ollantaytambo and Chinchero as listed in the itinerary.

When comparing tours, check this point carefully because some operators advertise a price without admission and require travelers to pay for the ticket during the day.

Can I finish the tour in Ollantaytambo to catch a train?

The standard itinerary continues from Ollantaytambo to Chinchero and then returns to Cusco. If you want to remain in Ollantaytambo or connect with a train, request this before booking so the team can confirm whether drop-off is possible and how it affects luggage, lunch and the rest of the service.

Do not book a train based only on the general itinerary. Arrival in Ollantaytambo can vary because of traffic and the duration of the earlier visits.

How physically demanding is the Sacred Valley day tour?

This is not a continuous hike, but Pisac and Ollantaytambo involve stairs, slopes and uneven ground. Travelers should have a basic level of mobility, wear suitable shoes and avoid rushing on the steps.

Anyone with limited mobility, knee problems or sensitivity to altitude should contact the team before booking to discuss the most appropriate service.

Are the Pisac market and the Chinchero textile activity the same every day?

No. The number of stalls, market atmosphere and available activities can vary by day, season and local organization. A textile explanation or demonstration in Chinchero also depends on the operation scheduled for that date.

The archaeological sites and main route remain part of the itinerary unless access, weather or authority decisions require changes.

Does the buffet lunch include vegetarian or allergy-friendly options?

Tourist restaurants usually provide several dishes, but the exact selection depends on the assigned venue. Tell the team about allergies, intolerances or vegetarian preferences when booking.

Advance notice allows available alternatives to be checked. Travelers with a serious medical restriction should not wait until arrival at the restaurant.

How does the rainy season affect a sacred valley tour Cusco departure?

From approximately November through March, rain may lead to wet paths, reduced visibility and changes in travel times. The tour generally operates while roads and sites remain open, but the order or duration of a visit may be adjusted for safety.

Bring a waterproof layer, shoes with good grip and protection for personal items.
