One of the favorite tours among travelers is the Maras and Moray tour, which allows them to enjoy the landscapes and experiences of these towns and their attractions. We will pick you up from your hotel at around 7:30 a.m. and take you on a journey of approximately 1 hour to visit Moray. This site is considered an Inca agricultural laboratory due to its circular terraces that were used for cultivating and producing various crops.
Next, we will head to Maras (Villa San Francisco de Asís de Maras), the main supplier of salt. Here, you will witness the astonishing ingenuity and skill of the Incas in extracting this mineral, known as the "white gold of the Andes." The district of Maras was a mandatory stop for muleteers transporting tropical products, especially coca leaves, from the high jungle to Cusco (QOSQO).

To start our Moray and Maras Salt Mines Tour, we will pick you up from your hotel around 07:30 a.m. and then head to Moray and the Maras salt mines in our transportation. Along the way, you will enjoy beautiful Andean landscapes surrounded by trees and wildlife.
First, we will visit the Moray archaeological site, which is located 38 km from the city of Cusco. Moray is considered an Inca agricultural laboratory built in the shape of concentric circles. It consists of four platforms or circles, with the deepest depression reaching 80 meters and the lowest terrace having a diameter of 36 meters.
Inside the terraces, temperature variations range from 0.5 to 1.5 °C per terrace, creating up to 20 different microclimates. It is believed that the purpose of this archaeological site was to cultivate crops that wouldn't naturally grow in the area.
Next, we will visit the Maras salt mines. As the name suggests, these are salt mines composed of around 3,000 small pools, producing approximately 50 to 80 kilograms of salt per pool per season. It is said that during the Inca period, these salt mines supplied salt to Cusco and its surrounding areas. The pools are fed by an underground salty spring. This natural process takes about two months for each pool to be filled with salt. The Maras salt is highly sought after, with the highest-quality salt being the pink mineral salt. This salt also has medicinal properties, so don't forget to acquire some products made from this salt along the way.
Undoubtedly, both of these places hold a lot of history and interesting facts that our guide will share with you during the journey. After exploring these spectacular sites, our transportation will pick us up, and we will return to the city of Cusco. The tour will conclude around 2:00 p.m., marking the end of our Moray and Maras Salt Mines Tour.
