Cusco 4-Day Tour

This 4-day tour covers Cusco, the Sacred Valley of the Incas, and Machu Picchu. In the city, you will visit the historic center and the main Inca and colonial sites. In the valley, you will visit towns and archaeological sites along the route to Ollantaytambo. The program includes the train journey to Aguas Calientes and a guided visit to the citadel. The pace allows you to see the essential parts of the region without extending your stay.

Highlights

  • Arrival in Cusco and city tour: airport reception and, from approximately 1:00 p.m., the Cathedral, Qoricancha, Sacsayhuamán, Qenqo, Puka Pukara, and Tambomachay. Return near the Plaza de Armas at around 6:00 p.m.
  • Sacred Valley: pickup at 7:30 a.m., Pisac and its market, lunch in Urubamba, and visit to Ollantaytambo.
  • Train to Aguas Calientes: journey of about 1 hr 50 min along the Vilcanota River and overnight in the town.
  • Machu Picchu: 25-minute bus ride and guided visit of 2 to 3 hours; return by train to Ollantaytambo and transfer to Cusco.

Itinerary

We will be waiting for you at the airport to welcome you and transfer you to your hotel in Cusco. At approximately 1:00 p.m., we will pick you up from your hotel to begin the city tour. We will visit the city, starting with the Cusco Cathedral, decorated with wood carvings, altars, and paintings by artists of the Cusco School.

Next, we will explore Qoricancha, or the Temple of the Sun, built by the Incas in veneration of the sun. Later modified by the Spanish during the Viceroyalty, it still preserves walls of great Inca precision alongside Catholic religious pieces.

Then we will travel to Sacsayhuamán, 3 km from Cusco. The esplanade offers a panoramic view of the city. The structure was built with large limestone blocks; some weigh between 25 and 130 tons. It consists of three superimposed zigzag terraces and was the setting for Inca ceremonies such as Inti Raymi (Festival of the Sun, every June) and Warachikuy (a rite of passage for young people).

We will continue to Qenqo, a Quechua word associated with zigzag shapes because of its underground galleries and carved channels. The next stop is Puka Pukara, the “red fortress,” located to control access to the city. The tour ends at Tambomachay, 9 km from Cusco, also known as the “Baths of the Inca” because of its springs. We conclude the city tour near the Plaza de Armas at approximately 6:00 p.m.

  • Pre-tour assistance.
  • Overnight at a hotel in Cusco.

Recommendations

After the tour, we invite you to take a walk around the Plaza de Armas and its surroundings, where you can admire the work of Cusco artisans in the handicraft shops. Enjoy Peruvian cuisine at local restaurants, or simply rest on one of the benches in the Plaza de Armas. If you enjoy nightlife, you will find nightclubs and bars around the square.

On this day, you will take a tour of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. After breakfast at your hotel, we will pick you up at approximately 7:30 a.m.

The first stop is the Pisac archaeological site, one hour from Cusco. The site features agricultural terraces, residential and ceremonial structures, and aqueducts that carried water to the crops. Afterward, you will visit the Pisac handicraft market. At midday, you will have lunch in Urubamba at a buffet featuring local and national cuisine.

Next is the Ollantaytambo fortress, a military, agricultural, and religious center that controlled the valley. The site features superimposed terraces and carved stone blocks.

After the visit, you will head to the station for the train to Aguas Calientes. The journey takes about 1 hour and 50 minutes and follows the course of the Vilcanota River. In Aguas Calientes, we will assist you with the transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day is free to explore the town, visit the handicraft shops, or have dinner at a local restaurant.

Once at the sanctuary, we will begin our tour. We will explore Inca architecture and engineering. The tour of the Machu Picchu citadel lasts approximately 2 to 3 hours, allowing you to learn more about the history of this place. It is important to keep in mind that visiting time is limited, so we will make the most of every moment.

After the tour, we will return by bus to Aguas Calientes, where you will have time for lunch and to explore the town, with its restaurants and handicraft shops. Reviews from travelers who took the 4-day Cusco tour

Anthony discovers Cusco, the Sacred Valley, and Machu Picchu in four days

I took the four-day tour of Cusco, the Sacred Valley, and Machu Picchu and was very satisfied with the experience. Efraín took the time to meet with me to explain every detail, give me the tickets, and guide me regarding the trains, the itinerary, and Aguas Calientes, which gave me a lot of peace of mind because I was traveling alone. He also kept in touch with me throughout the trip. Frank, in the Sacred Valley, and Juan Carlos, at Machu Picchu, were very kind and professional; they answered all my questions and also helped me take several photographs during the visits.

During the return to Cusco, Víctor was also very attentive and we talked during the journey. We even stopped at a viewpoint and then visited a textile demonstration in the Sacred Valley, which I found interesting. Overall, I really enjoyed the tour and the service I received. I recommend the tour, although I suggest comparing the options and prices carefully before booking, especially if traveling alone.

Tudo perfeito Eu e meu marido adoramos o passeio.

Cusco & Machu Picchu It was very well done. CuscoPeru did a fantastic job with my tour. Efrain picked me up on time at the airport. Both Julio and Henry did a great job with super information the first 2 days. The buffet lunch the tour provided was top shelf, including sushi. On day 3 Eddy did a wonderful job explaining all of Machu Picchu. My tour was for Circuit 1, but he somehow managed to get me on Circuit 3 as well. It was a day I will never forget. All hotel accommodations were very comfortable. I would recommend this tour to anyone

Highly recommended The trip was great! Our driver Roselito picked us up from the hotel and was very knowledgeable in the history of region, took us on the scenic route. Once we got on the train, it included snacks and drinks (water, coffee, or tea). Once we got to Aguascalientes, we were met by our tour guide Renato and Norma. Norma made sure we met our tour guide Renato, and made sure we got on the bus. Once we arrived at the entrance of Machu Pichu, we were met by our tour guide Renato. It was a pleasant experience. Pictures don’t do the site justice. Our tour guide Renato gave us an overview of the site and significance of the layout. I highly recommend booking with the company, and if possible make sure you get Roselito as your driver from Cusco to the train station.

Fun and exciting! I had a custom 9-day tour. I told the booking agents the things I wanted see and do in Peru and they came up with an itinerary. I really enjoyed all the day trips and when I needed to make an adjustment during the tour, Efrain (my coordinator) was right on it. He was always available to answer my questions, which really made me feel comfortable travelling alone. Also, the tour guides and drivers were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I highly recommend CuscoPeru to anyone who wants interesting/fun tours and/or needs a little assistance in planning what to do!
