Discover the incredible landscape of Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca), located in the Peruvian Andes, just a few hours from Cusco. This geological formation owes its colors to different minerals that create layers of clay-rich soil in shades of yellow, red, blue, violet, and brown. The route lets you admire the contrast between the green high-altitude grasslands and the mountain’s intense colors, creating a unique landscape in the region.

The Rainbow Mountain tour from Cusco is an unforgettable experience. We will pick you up from your hotel at approximately 4:00 a.m., which is the perfect time to travel by car for about two hours south until we reach the district of Cusipata in the province of Quispicanchi, where we can have breakfast.
After a short break, our next destination is 10 minutes away and is the first base checkpoint, the rural community of Pitumarca. From there, we continue on a 25-minute drive in our transport to the second base checkpoint in the rural community of Chillihuani. From the Control Base, we will begin a 1 hour and 40 minute hike to Vinicunca Mountain (also known as Rainbow Mountain), one of the most beautiful mountains in the Cusco region.
From the summit, you will enjoy an incredible view and a range of colors that goes from green to red, which is why it is called the “Mountain of 7 Colors,” an impressive experience to admire the colors of the mountain and the Andes Mountain Range. The mountain is almost as high as Everest Base Camp, which is located at 5,389 m / 17,680 ft above sea level. We will stay at the summit for approximately 30 minutes maximum. In addition to this experience, our tour includes a traditional breakfast and lunch.
Our Rainbow Mountain tour from Cusco ends at approximately 06:00 p.m. near the Historic Center.

The tour begins with hotel pickup at approximately 4:00 a.m. We will travel for two hours south to the district of Cusipata, in the province of Quispicanchi, where we will stop for breakfast.
After a short break, we continue for 10 minutes to the first checkpoint in the community of Pitumarca. From the summit, located at 5,389 m.a.s.l. / 17,680 ft, you can appreciate the range of colors that goes from green to red, the result of the exposure of different minerals in the geological layers of the Andes Mountain Range. We will remain at the summit of Rainbow Mountain for a maximum of 30 minutes, since the winds are icy and it would be counterproductive for travelers’ health.
Then, we will return along the same trail to the point where we started the hike. Our transportation will be waiting to take us back so we can enjoy a delicious Andean lunch. After lunch, we will begin the return trip to the city of Cusco, arriving at approximately 6:00 p.m.
