The Huayna Picchu (Wayna Picchu) ticket lets you visit the Machu Picchu citadel, hike Huayna Picchu Mountain, and capture a classic postcard view of your trip..

What Is Huayna Picchu

Huayna Picchu (Wayna Picchu) sits north of the Machu Picchu citadel at an elevation of 2,667 m.

In Quechua, “wayna” = “young” and “picchu” = “mountain,” so its name translates as “Young Mountain.” It’s often presented as the counterpart to Machu Picchu (“Old Mountain”).

The trail to the summit is challenging, with narrow, steep stairways and paths.

At the top there’s a viewpoint with one of the best vistas of the citadel. Along the slope you can see Inca terraces and a cave shrine known as the Temple of the Moon.

How to Get to Huayna Picchu

Buy the Royalty Circuit 3 (Lower Section) + Huayna Picchu ticket at least 3 months in advance. It includes access to the citadel’s lower section and Huayna Picchu Mountain.

Enter via Circuit 3 (Lower Section) + Huayna Picchu, which starts in the lower part of the citadel and leads to the control gate. The ascent takes about 2 h 30 min, depending on fitness. You can reach the citadel on foot or by bus.
