Huchuy Picchu, whose name in Quechua means "Small Mountain," is a Sacred Waka located within the archaeological site of Machu Picchu, in Cusco, Peru. Here, you will also find other archaeological sites surrounded by a remarkable diversity of flora and fauna. The mountain and its archaeological sites offer a magnificent view of the site itself, the canyon crossed by the Vilcanota river, and the majestic Vilcabamba mountain ranges, with the imposing APU PUMASILLO.
Just like the Huayna Picchu mountain, the Incas built stone steps leading to the top of Huchuy Picchu. Today, the hiking route to the top (which takes about 1 hour) is one of the new adventure attractions when visiting Machu Picchu, offering panoramic views of the entire site.
After this unforgettable moment, our guide will begin the tour to provide a deeper understanding of the history and architecture of this wonderful place. Later, we will board the return train to Ollantaytambo, where our representative will be waiting for you with a sign bearing your name. Machu Picchu now has 3 new circuits, each divided into routes to make your experience more enjoyable. In total, there are 10 different entrance tickets, designed to avoid crowding in certain areas of the archaeological site. If you're interested in tours to Machu Picchu from Cusco, we recommend considering the different circuits to make the most of your visit.
Circuit 1 offers a panoramic view of Machu Picchu, where you can capture the classic postcard photo. From here, you'll see several important points of the Inca citadel. However, it's important to note that you won't be able to enter the interior of the citadel.
This circuit is subdivided into 4 different routes:
Route 1-A: Machu Picchu Mountain. Includes Circuit 1 plus the hike to the summit of Machu Picchu Mountain. The hike takes about 3 hours round trip, with 40 minutes allowed inside Machu Picchu.
Route 1-B: Upper Terrace. Includes only Circuit 1, visiting the Guardian's House sector and the classic postcard photo spot. Guided visit lasts about 40 minutes.
Route 1-C: Intipunku Gate. Includes Circuit 1 plus the hike to the historic Sun Gate, offering a privileged view of Machu Picchu and the surrounding mountains.
Route 1-D: Inca Bridge. Includes Circuit 1 plus a visit to the Inca Bridge, a dramatic construction along the mountain's edge connecting the high jungle with Machu Picchu.
Circuit 2 is the most complete and recommended, as it covers most of the interior of Machu Picchu. It allows you to take the iconic photo and visit major archaeological sites such as the Main Plaza of Temples, the Intihuatana, and the Sacred Rock.
Because it's the most popular, reservations should be made at least 6 months in advance.
This circuit has 2 routes:
Route 2-A: Classic Designed. Covers most of Machu Picchu, including the classic photo from the Guardian's House. You'll visit the Temple of the Sun viewpoint, the Sacred Rock, and the Temple of the Condor.
Route 2-B: Lower Terrace. Covers most of Machu Picchu but does not include access to the Guardian's House. Instead, you'll take a similar photo from a lower terrace.
Circuit 3 runs through the lower part of Machu Picchu, offering a different perspective of the citadel and access to exclusive royal areas.
It includes 4 routes:
Route 3-A: Huayna Picchu Mountain. Includes Circuit 3 plus the hike to the summit of Huayna Picchu, with archaeological remains at the top. The ascent takes about 2 hours.
Route 3-B: Royal Designed. Focuses on enclosures built for Inca royalty. The hike lasts about 2 hours but does not include the classic photo spot.
Route 3-C: Great Cave. Includes Circuit 3 plus exclusive sites such as the Temple of the Condor, Water Mirrors, the Twelve Niches, the Sacred Rock, and the mysterious Temple of the Moon inside a natural cave.
Route 3-D: Huchuy Picchu Mountain. Includes Circuit 3 plus the hike to the summit of Huchuy Picchu, the smaller mountain next to Huayna Picchu.
The Machu Picchu Full Day Tour generally includes Circuit 2 (subject to availability), as it's the most complete and recommended option.
There are 9 entrance times to Machu Picchu, depending on when you arrive in Aguas Calientes.
