The ticket for Machu Picchu Mountain (Circuit 1 - Machu Picchu Mountain Route) allows you to enjoy the panoramic view of Machu Picchu from the upper part of the citadel. In addition, you will be able to visit the famous mountain that bears its name, “Machu Picchu,” or Old Mountain.

Machu Picchu Mountain, although longer in distance and higher at its summit, is much easier to hike than “Huayna Picchu” Mountain, as it offers wider and less steep trails.

Where Is Machu Picchu Mountain Located?

Machu Picchu Mountain is located opposite Huayna Picchu Mountain, southeast of the citadel of the same name. The view from Machu Picchu Mountain is incomparable; also, you can admire the Inca city and Huayna Picchu from a higher perspective.

How to Get to Machu Picchu Mountain

To get to Machu Picchu Mountain, you must purchase the Circuit 1 - Machu Picchu Mountain Route admission ticket in advance. With this ticket, you will have access to the upper part of the Machu Picchu citadel and to Machu Picchu Mountain. Book at least 2 months in advance.

You must arrive at the Machu Picchu citadel, either on foot or by bus. Then, you need to walk to the entrance checkpoint through Circuit 1 - Machu Picchu Mountain Route, which begins in the upper part of the citadel. The ascent takes between 3 and 4 hours, depending on the person’s physical condition.

2026 Entry Times

The entry times for “Machu Picchu Mountain” are as follows:

  • Group 1: entry from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.
  • Group 2: entry from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

Please note that the maximum capacity for Machu Picchu Mountain is 400 people per day, divided into two groups of 200 each. We recommend booking in advance, at least 1 month ahead.

Useful Information About the Machu Picchu Mountain Ticket

  • The Machu Picchu admission ticket cannot be purchased separately.
  • This ticket DOES NOT include the classic Machu Picchu photo.
  • It is valid for entry on only one day, according to the selected entry date.
  • The Ministry of Culture of Cusco offers special discounts for minors.
  • The best time to hike to the summit of Machu Picchu Mountain is during the dry season, as rainfall is less frequent and the weather is ideal. This season runs from April to October.
