Cusco – City And Surroundings

We will welcome you upon your arrival at the Cusco airport and take you to your hotel. In the afternoon, you will enjoy a city tour of Cusco, visiting the Plaza de Armas and its cathedral, the Qoricancha Temple, Sacsayhuamán, Qenqo, Tambomachay, and Puka Pukara. At the end of the tour, we will return to the Plaza de Armas, where you will have free time for dinner.

Sacred Valley Of The Incas - Aguas Calientes

On this day, you will visit the Sacred Valley of the Incas. You will start at the Pisac Archaeological Site, where you will explore its handicrafts market and the archaeological complex that once served as an Inca astronomical center. We will then continue to Urubamba for a buffet-style lunch featuring local products from the Sacred Valley.

In the afternoon, you will visit the Ollantaytambo Fortress. Afterward, you will be transferred to the train station for the trip to Aguas Calientes, where our assistant will meet you and take you to your hotel.

Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu

According to the schedule on your entrance ticket, you will take the bus from Aguas Calientes up to Machu Picchu. You will have a guided tour of approximately 2.5 hours through the Machu Picchu citadel, learning about its history and architecture. The assigned circuit will depend on availability at the time of booking.

After the tour, you will have free time for lunch (not included). In the afternoon, you will take the train back to Ollantaytambo and then transfer to your hotel in Cusco.

Maras And Moray

We will visit the Maras Salt Mines and the Moray Archaeological Site. Pick-up from your hotel in Cusco at 7:30 AM. Our first stop will be Moray, a complex of circular terraces that the Incas used to experiment with crops at different altitudes.

We will then continue to the Maras Salt Mines, where you will learn about the salt extraction process that has been preserved since Inca times. On the way back, we will visit the Chinchero Textile Center.

Walking To The Rainbow Mountain

Departure at approximately 4:00 AM from your hotel in Cusco. A 3-hour drive to the district of Cusipata, where you will enjoy the included breakfast. The hike begins at 4,600 m.a.s.l. and climbs to 5,200 m.a.s.l. (17,060 ft) in approximately 2 hours. Time at the summit to admire the colorful mineral formations and take photos.

Descent of approximately 1.5 hours. Lunch in Cusipata, then return to Cusco between 5:00–6:00 PM. Along the way, you will pass through high Andean communities where you’ll see llamas and alpacas in their natural habitat.

Machu Picchu and Rainbow Mountain Itinerary

DAY 1: Cusco – City And Surroundings

Reception at the airport or bus terminal and transfer to your hotel in Cusco. In the afternoon, at approximately 1:00 p.m. or earlier, we will begin the city tour visiting Cusco Cathedral and the Temple of Qoricancha. Then we will visit the archaeological sites of Sacsayhuamán, Qenqo, Pukapukara, and Tambomachay, located on the upper side of the city of Cusco. We will return to the Historic Center area at approximately 6:00 p.m.

DAY 2: Sacred Valley Of The Incas – Aguas Calientes

Full-day excursion to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We will pick you up from your hotel at 8:00 a.m. Our vehicle will take you to the town of Pisac (2,972 m / 9,751 ft), where we will begin the tour by visiting the Pisac Archaeological Site, located about 45 minutes from Cusco by car.

After the archaeological visit, we will explore the Pisac handicrafts market, one of the most well-known in the Sacred Valley and South America, where you will find alpaca textiles, ceramics, silver jewelry, and local handicrafts. At midday we will head to the town of Urubamba (2,871 m / 9,419 ft), where you will enjoy a buffet lunch with typical dishes from the region.

In the afternoon, we will visit the Ollantaytambo Fortress (2,792 m / 9,160 ft), one of the best-preserved archaeological complexes of the Inca Empire. This site was the scene of an important battle between the Incas and the Spanish in 1536, and it still preserves its original urban layout. Our guide will explain the history and architecture of the site during the visit.

At the end of the tour, our guide will accompany you to the Ollantaytambo train station to board the train to Aguas Calientes (2,040 m / 6,693 ft). The train journey takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. Upon arrival, our assistant will be waiting for you at the station to take you to your hotel.

DAY 3: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu

Early in the morning, you will head to the bus station to ride up to the Machu Picchu Archaeological Sanctuary (2,430 m / 7,972 ft), where your guided tour will begin. The ride takes about 25 minutes; you will then arrive at the Machu Picchu citadel.

Once in Machu Picchu, our guide will begin the guided visit, explaining the site’s history and architecture. You will see the main Inca buildings and temples, as well as the natural surroundings that frame this incredible place.

In the afternoon, you will board the train back to the Ollantaytambo station, where we will pick you up and transfer you to your hotel in Cusco.

DAY 4: Maras And Moray

Hotel pick-up at approximately 7:30 a.m. We will depart by vehicle to the Moray Archaeological Site (3,500 m / 11,483 ft), located 38 km from Cusco. Along the way, we will see farming fields surrounded by mountains and snow-capped peaks.

Guided tour at Moray, an archaeological site with stepped circular terraces that once functioned as an Inca agricultural laboratory. The deepest circle measures 80 meters in diameter, and the temperature differences between terraces make it possible to recreate up to 20 different microclimates.

We will then continue to the Maras Salt Mines (3,380 m / 11,089 ft), made up of approximately 3,000 salt pools that produce between 50 and 80 kilos of salt per season. The pools are supplied by an underground spring, and the sun evaporates the water to crystallize the salt. You can purchase pink salt on site.

On the way back to Cusco, we will stop in Chinchero (3,762 m / 12,342 ft) to visit a textile center, where you will see the traditional process of working with alpaca fiber.

DAY 5: Hike To Rainbow Mountain

Very early hotel pick-up. Drive to the district of Cusipata - Paucarpata for breakfast. Then you will continue for 1 more hour to the checkpoint to begin the hike.

The hike takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. Along the way, you will see Andean landscapes, snow-capped peaks, llamas, and alpacas. Upon reaching the viewpoint of Vinicunca or Rainbow Mountain (5,080 m / 16,667 ft), the guide will explain the geography, ecosystem, and colors of the mountain. You will have a reasonable amount of time at the summit to take photos.

Return to the checkpoint and head back to Cusipata for lunch. The Rainbow Mountain tour will end with the transfer back to your hotel in Cusco.
