This 2-day Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu journey begins at approximately 7:30 a.m. time in which we will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco. Our first destination is the archaeological site of Pisac, located about 45 minutes from the city.
Pisac is renowned for its extensive agricultural terraces and impressive Inca architecture, which demonstrate the advanced knowledge and study of this civilization towards agriculture and astronomy. The site was part of the Qhapaq Ñan, the ancient Inca road system that connected different regions of the empire for exchange of produce and culture. After a full visit to the Inca Archeological site, we will head to Urubamba at midday to enjoy a buffet lunch featuring a variety of traditional Peruvian dishes.
In the afternoon, we will visit Ollantaytambo, an Inca fortress that functioned as a military, religious, and agricultural storage center. Here, you will observe massive stone walls, agricultural terraces, and watchtowers that highlight the strategic importance of this site. Ollantaytambo preserves its original Inca urban layout, making it one of the few places where these features can still be seen inhabited by modern day civilization. It was the Inca Pachacútec who developed Ollantaytambo as an administrative center of the Sacred Valley.
After the visit, we will board the train at Ollantaytambo station bound for Aguas Calientes, where we will spend the night and await for the next day’s adventure!
