One of the most popular tours among travelers is the Maras and Moray tour, which allows visitors to enjoy the landscapes and experiences of these villages and their attractions. We will pick you up from your hotel at approximately 8:00 a.m.
The first stop will be the Chinchero Textile Center, where you will learn about the traditional weaving and dyeing techniques used by the people of Cusco hundreds of years ago. Then, we will continue the journey for approximately 1 hour to visit Moray, considered an Inca agricultural laboratory that may have served for the cultivation and production of different crops.
Next, we will head to the town of Maras, also known as Villa San Francisco de Asís de Maras. This district is known for its local salt production and for its historical importance as a transit point for muleteers who transported tropical products, especially coca leaves, from the high jungle to Cusco.
You will also visit the Maras Salt Mines, an attraction known for its history, mountain scenery, and traditional salt production. There, you will see a group of more than 3,000 natural and ancestral salt ponds used since pre-Inca times.

To begin our tour to Moray and the Maras Salt Mines, we will pick you up from your hotel at approximately 8:00 a.m. Then, we will head by transport to Moray and Maras. Along the way, you will see Andean landscapes surrounded by trees and local wildlife.
First, we will visit the Chinchero Textile Center. There, you will see how local women make their textiles using ancestral techniques. This center was founded to preserve traditional weaving and pass this knowledge on to future generations.
Next, we will visit the archaeological site of Moray, located 38 km from the city of Cusco. Moray is considered an Inca agricultural laboratory built in the form of rings, specifically made up of four muyus or circles, which are concentric terraces. The lowest terrace is 36 meters in diameter.
Inside the terraces, temperature variations range from 0.5 to 1.5 °C per terrace, creating different microclimates. It is believed that the purpose of this archaeological site was to grow products that did not naturally thrive in this area.
Afterwards, we will visit the Maras Salt Mines, made up of around 3,000 small salt ponds. Each pond produces approximately 50 to 80 kilos of salt per season. It is said that during Inca times they supplied salt to the Cusco region and its surroundings.
These ponds are fed by an underground saltwater spring. The crystallization process can take almost two months per production cycle. Maras salt is highly sought after, and the highest-quality variety is the pink mineral salt. This mineral is also associated with medicinal properties. During the visit, you will be able to purchase products made from this salt.
These two places have a rich history and many interesting facts that our guide will share along the way. After visiting and exploring these spectacular sites, our transport will pick us up and we will return to the city of Cusco, where our tour ends at approximately 2:00 p.m., concluding our tour to Moray and the Maras Salt Mines.
