Temples and Sanctuaries of Lima

The churches of this city compete with European beauty. Not surprisingly, for many years of the colony, Lima was the city of wealth and opulence. Almost all priestly orders are present with their churches representing competing them for their beauty.

The Cathedral of Lima

The façade of the cathedral is renaissance style with silver ornaments. Its tall towers with slate spires are neoclassic with styled influences from north Europe. It has three doors as most cathedrals. The main one (central one) is called principal door, the right one is called baptistery door and the left one is called forgiveness door.

San Francisco Church and Convent

The Church of San Francisco, located in the center of Lima, is a monumental architectural complex built in the seventeenth century and is composed of the basilica and the convent of San Francisco, as well as the Sanctuary of La Soledad and El Milagro Chapel.

Santo Domingo Church and Convent

The Church and Convent of Santo Domingo is the oldest in the city, completed in the last years of the sixteenth century, it was during the Colony's main cultural center of the city. Until 1643, the Universidad Mayor de San Marcos was here, founded in 1551. In the cloisters of Santo Domingo San Martin de Porras lived (1579-1639), who is buried along with the Santa Rosa Lima (1586-1617).

La Merced Church

The Church of Mercy began in the sixteenth century and culminated in the seventeenth. Its facade has a beautiful baroque decoration.

San Agustin Church

The port was built in 1710 with stone, and was decorated with beautiful ornaments. This consists of three naves and three streets, of which the center is where you access the building in where you can see the cover Churrigueresque which is one of the two covers more known throughout the city that reflect this style. In this body you can see a vertical arc cornice, and ten images related to Saint Augustine located in the facade.

San Pedro Church and Convent

The museum has three naves and a dome, considered among the most beautiful of Peru. On the main altar is seen to holders of the church of San Pedro and San Pablo, and in the center there is the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Las Nazarenas Church

It houses in its main altar to the religious image of Peru: the Lord of Miracles. The Church of the Nazarene receives throughout the year, thousands of visitors, especially in October.
