DAY 1: CUSCO CITY AND SURROUNDINGS.

Welcome and transfer to your hotel in Cusco. In the afternoon at approximately 1:00 p.m., we will pick you up from the hotel and begin our tour of the city, starting with the Cathedral of Cusco that houses in its walls artistic treasures of incalculable value and is considered by many the most beautiful in South America. Then we will visit the Qorikancha- this wonderful temple is considered sacred since it harbored Inca priests in charge of worshiping the Sun God. We will continue our guided tour of the archaeological centers located around the city of Cusco; starting with Sacsayhuaman, whose Quechua name means "satisfied hawk". It was built with huge blocks of stone. In the time of the Incas it was called the “Sun House” and it was a religious center of great importance in the local tradition. Then we will visit Qenqo -Quechua word which means “Labyrinth”, names so by the Spaniards for its labyrinthine underground galleries and small canals carved in zigzag. We will continue our tour visiting Puka Pukara, called the Red Fortress; this is built with stones that have red color tone; finally we will arrive at Tambomachay, which was an Inca temple dedicated to worship the water. Our tour ends at the Plaza de Armas in Cusco, at approximately 6:00 p.m.

Recommendations:

  • After the tour, take a walk through the Plaza de Armas and its surroundings, where you can appreciate the work of artisans from Cusco in the craft shops. You can also taste the famous Peruvian cuisine in the nearby restaurants or you can simply take a break on one of the benches of the Plaza de Armas, then take the classic photo to remember in a warm atmosphere, despite the cold nights of Cusco. And if you like the night vibe around the square, you will find many nightclubs and bars full of tourists and locals who expect to have fun.

DAY 2: SACRED VALLEY- CUSCO – AGUAS CALIENTES.

Breakfast at the hotel. At 8:00 a.m., we will pick you up from your hotel and start visiting the archaeological center of Pisac located 45 minutes from Cusco by private transport. Pisac will give you an idea of the advanced knowledge that the Incas achieved in architecture. As in other Inca buildings, some studies reveal that it was not a fortress, but a kind of "royal treasury" owned by the Inca Pachacutec, composed of platforms, domestic structures, ceremonials and aqueducts that provided water for agricultural exploitation. Another good reason to visit Pisac is its craft market, where you can find some unique and authentic souvenirs. At noon we will go to the town of Urubamba where we will eat a buffet lunch that will allow you to enjoy the delicious Peruvian cuisine. Urubamba was one of the main agricultural centers of the Inca Empire. Currently, the best corn in the world is harvested here, and in the rainy season the fruits of the valley are abundant, such as peaches, capulí, quince, strawberries of the highest quality, among others.
In the afternoon we will visit the Ollantaytambo fortress that constituted a strategic military, agricultural and religious center to administer and control the Sacred Valley; this is deduced by the constructions that presumably were for agricultural deposits and for military use as walls and watchtowers (probably to protect themselves from the jungle ethnic groups). This archaeological site comprises a series of superimposed terraces, showing the impressive and large finely carved stone blocks located on the upper terrace.
It is in Ollantaytambo that we will board the train heading to Aguas Calientes for the next day early to be able to visit Machu Picchu.

Recommendations:

  • We suggest that you wear suitable shoes, you will climb many stairs.
  • Take a small backpack with your camera, bring a hat, sunscreen, mosquito repellant and a bottle of water.
  • In Pisac do not forget to try the empanadas and pick up some craft souvenirs.
  • In Urubamba you will enjoy a delicious buffet lunch, where we invite you to try the corn from the Sacred Valley.

DAY 3: AGUAS CALIENTES - MACHU PICCHU.

Very early breakfast at the hotel. At 5:50 a.m. we will transfer to the bus station to go up to the Archaeological Sanctuary of Machu Picchu. The trip will take 25 minutes; finally we will arrive to appreciate the impressive sunrise. We begin the guided tour of one of the 7 Wonders of the Modern World: Machu Picchu. Our guide will tell you about the history and architecture of the citadel, you will be amazed with the Inca buildings and the natural environment that surrounds them. After the tour you will have free time until 1:00 p.m. to continue exploring and take the photos to remember your visit. We return by bus to Aguas Calientes and in the afternoon you will have time until 3:30 p.m. to have lunch, to be able to rest and to get to know the town. At 4:30 p.m. we will board the train to Cusco, arriving at approximately 6:30 p.m. We will pick you up from the train station to transfer you to your hotel in Cusco. Schedules may vary based on departures of the trains you choose.

Recommendations:

  • Arrive half an hour before the departure at the train station.
  • In Machu Picchu you will climb many steps, wear appropriate shoes.
  • We suggest carrying a small backpack with your camera, wearing a hat, sunscreen, mosquito repellent and a bottle of water.
  • After the guided tour in Machu Picchu enjoy the magical moment appreciating the wonder, open your arms and recharge your energy.
  • Visit the thermal baths in Aguas Calientes.

DAY 4: MARAS - MORAY.

We start in Cusco at your hotel at 8:00 a.m. and we leave for the village of Maras and the experimental agricultural terraces of Moray. First we arrive at Moray; according to historians the constructions of Moray constituted an important agricultural laboratory of the Inca empire, since their platforms are built with their respective irrigation channels and each of them constitute a microclimate. What is striking is the great difference in annual average temperature between the top and the bottom of the depressions, a difference that reaches up to 15 degrees Celsius.
In Moray, the Incas created their own micro-climate to adapt the plants to this altitude.
After this we will make a visit to the Town of Maras and the salt mines. First we will visit the Maras Temple. It is an outstanding colonial church made of adobe with typical religious architecture where you can find Cuzco paintings representing the Last Supper, Jesus and the apostles. It also shows beautiful mansions with shields of Indian nobles, reflecting an era of prosperity during the colonial period.
Finally we arrive at the Salineras de Maras. These are an impressive salt complex, which was already exploited since the Inca era. Currently the mines are still working and the farmers of the area sell the salt that is much sought after in the market; also the place is an important tourist destination in Cusco.
In the afternoon we return to Cusco at 2:00 p.m. and we will have the afternoon free to walk through the city of Cusco and its streets.
