To All of Our Friends who are concerned for the preservation of Peru's cultural heritage:

We are a group of people (few in number so far), who are deeply concerned about the imminent threat of destruction to the archaeological site of Ollantaytambo. Our initial intention, at this date, is to raise the alarm, without providing a wealth of details for the time being. We will send more information later.

The contents of the following Open Letter, signed by the Mayor and Deputy-Mayor of Ollantaytambo, summarize the current situation.

For now we would like to ask you:

a) to forward this message to all those people and institutions you may know who might be concerned about this issue

b) to send us copies of the names and e-mail addresses of the people and institutions to whom you have forwarded this, so that we can compile a mailing list of those who might support this campaign

c) to send us your reactions and suggestions on this subject, and help us to find the best approach - that is, the most effective way to get the authorities to find an alternative route for this highway which would not affect Ollantaytambo, while also allowing the development of the Quillabamba-Kiteni region.
