Depatures: Every day, all year.

This hike has a combination of wonderful scenery as well as traditions and Machu Picchu on the 4th day. The hike will show you wonderful Mountains views, passes and you will stay over near two different Peruvian small towns. On the 4th day, your guide will show you the treasures of Machu Picchu.

Day 1: Cusco - Huaca Casi Pass - Lares Hot Springs - Huacawasi

At about 5:00am, we will go to Lares by bus. We will get to see several archaeological sites on the way and artisans markets in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. At Calca province (2940m/9646f), we will first go to Huaca Casi pass (4400m/14436f) after that we will go down to Lares Hot Springs (3200m/10499f) where we will have enough time to relax inside the pools (between 28 and 36 degrees C/82 and 97 F). After having lunch we will go to Huacahuasi (3600m/11811f) where we will camp.

Day 2: Huacawasi - Ipsay Pass - Patacancha

During this 2nd day, we will have the most wonderful experience. After having breakfast, we will hike for 4 hours on the way to Ipsay pass (4400m/14436f). Here we will visit some families that make a living from agriculture and textile designs that are inspired in Gods from the Andes. After that we will go down to Patacancha (3650m/11975f), where the camp site is set.

Day 3: Patacancha - Willoq - Pumamarca - Ollantaytambo - Aguas Calientes

This is also a spectacular day since we will visit several communities and towns as Willoq (3400m/11156f), Pumamarca (3200m/10499f) and Ollantaytambo (2850m/9350f) which is considered to be the last Inca citadel, built according to Inca architecture. Here in Ollantaytambo we will board the train to Aguas Calientes (2050m/6726f), where we will stay over at a hotel.

Day 4: Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Cusco

We will leave our hotel after breakfast at 5:30am and head for Machu Picchu (2400m/7874f) by tourist bus. We will arrive at the citadel around 6:00am. After a guided tour around the archaeological site, including information about life and culture of the Incas, you will have enough time to enjoy Machu Picchu and Wayna Picchu (2750m/9022f) on your own. We will leave Aguas Calientes by train either at 2:55pm or at 6:45pm. Until then you will have time to have lunch in one of the nice restaurants. Moreover you can visit the hot springs in Aguas Calientes for relaxing

What do I need to bring?

 

  • Backpack with rain shelter.
  • Sleeping bag.
  • Clothing for warm and cold climate like a waterproof jacket.
  • Rain pants and lightweight pants.
  • Trekking shoes.
  • Slippers or sandals (for showers and Hot Springs).
  • Woollen or synthetic socks and a sweater.
  • Long- and short-sleeved polo’s/T-Shirts.
  • Rain poncho and a hat. Bathing suit (for the Hot Springs in Aguas Calientes).
  • Sunscreen, insect repellent, disinfecting alcohol and gel, water bottle and sterilizing tablets, toiletries and toilet paper.
  • Camera (wrapped in plastic bag).
  • Flash light and batteries.
  • Some snacks like chocolate bars and dry fruit.
  • Original passport, original ISIC student card and extra money in soles.
  • Since the weather can be very cold and moistly, your clothes - once gotten wet - won’t dry at night. So take some clothes to change.

Lares Valley Trek to Machu Picchu 4 Days (Group Departure)

Note:

  1. From the first to the third day (from Lares Hot Springs to Ollantaytambo) we are accompanied by horsemen and mules that will carry all camping equipment and the customer’s private luggage (up to 7 kg). From Ollantaytambo village all luggage will be transferred in the train with you.
  2. Visit to Huayna Picchu: For Huayna Picchu Mountain requires to be booked long time in advance however we charge additional US $ 15.00 and then we’ll guarantee your entrance for Huayna Picchu as well (This new State law began since the 18th of July, 2011).
  3. Tips for porters, cooks and guides are always welcome. The porters are also very grateful for a small donation, for example clothes or school equipment for their children.
