house of Inca Garcilaso de la Vega
This museum is located in the colonial mansion of the illustrious writer and chronicler from Cuzco Garcilaso de la Vega Chimpuocllo, the building dates from the late sixteenth and early seventeenth century and was inhabited by Garcilaso until 1560, when he finally went to Spain. He got on Inca terraces that formed Cusipata Square. Regarding the building, the type shows an influence of Andalusian civil building, developing from a central courtyard, a gallery of arches, stone balconies on the east and wood crackled in the rest of the bays of the second level. Was underwent surgery with restoration processes after the earthquakes of 1650, 1950 and 1986.
It offers to the visitors a beautiful collection of archaeological objects from cultures pre-Inca and Inca, as well as a select collection of colonial paintings that shows the success of the artists from Cusco. The collections of cultural pre-Hispanic archaeological evidence of the Andean cultural development, covering all periods of Andean civilization: Pre ceramic, Formative or Early Horizon Period (Marcavalle and Chanapata), Middle Horizon (Wari) Late Intermediate (Killke and Lucre) and Late Horizon (Inca).
As for the collections colonial, republican and contemporary, has paintings and sculpture called Cuzco School, including those of Diego Quispe Tito, Paul Chillitupa and Master of Almudena. There are also notable sculptures, including five reliefs of secular Italian Jesuit Bernardo Bitti Democritus and the sculpture of a "Christ Crucified" which was present at the judgment and quartering of Tupac Amaru II in the main square of Cusco.
