Maras Town
location:
Maras is located 39 km from Chincheros or via Iscuchaca Chequerec and 45 km and from Cusco via Chinchero (The most advisable for being paved road).

Maras was occupied when Cusco citizens left the Inca palaces in Cusco and had to migrate to other small towns as Maras and San Sebastian.
This populated area was a necessary step for carriers and their mule trains that carried tropical products, specially coca leaves from the jungle to satisfy the needs of Cusco and the country.

Saline mines
It is an impressive saline mine that had already been exploited from Inca times as means of economical trade. You can visit the mines from Maras through a path where it is common to find mules carrying salt from the natural saline mines.
Temple
It is an outstanding colonial church made of mud adobes with typical religious architecture where you can find Cusquenian paintings that represent the last supper, Jesus and the apostles. It also shows beautiful big houses with shields of noble Indian families as evidence of a prosperity time during colony.
The gateways
Beautifully stone carved gates with geometrical and zoomorphic shapes.
