Principal Cusco & Peru Festivities

The Cusquenian and the Peruvian in general, is a festive town par excellent that has converted the religious celebrations into popular festivities where ceremonies are very important and the cults such as: dances, meals and beverages. For example there is come typical food that is prepared just for special festivities and it happens also in dances.

The most important festivity is the Holy Week, with its processions in the holy Monday and in the holy Friday.

To these parties we have to add two festivities that are done in places far away form Cusco, La virgen del Carmen in Paucarttambo and Qoylloritti, near of the town of Ocongate. Inti Raymi

Das wichtigste Fest des Reiches war das Inti Raymi. Zur Feier des Inti Raymi wurde auf dem Hauptplatz Cuzcos der Sonnentempel erbaut. In diesem Tempel wurde eine große Sonnenscheibe aufgestellt.

Die meisten Indianer sind getauft und doch leben sie auch in jenem Glauben weiter, den ihnen die spanischen Missionare vergeblich auszutreiben suchten.

Dieses Fest findet jedes Jahr in der Kolonialstadt von Paucartambo statt, auf einer Höhe von 3017 m. Dieser Ort ist ungefähr 4 Std. von Cuzco entfernt.

Holy week is commemoration that is celebrated in the entire catholic world in memory of the resurrection and death of Christ. In Cusco, this celebration is associated with the Lord of the Tremors, protector of the city.
