Meaning of the Name
Tarawasi is a quechua compound word, “tara” is an small prickly bush whose fruits are seemed to pods that are use as a popular medicine; and “wasi” that means home. Tarawasi is an important name of an archeological group which is part of Limatambo Town, its data is Inka.
Its weather is temperate almost warm, between huge mountains and small rivers that fall down to the west.
The complex of Tarawasi, is consider being a center for Inca rituals, located in the main part of Chinchaysuyo, built with granite, polish until having the shape of a pillow, all done with fine taste, it has a esthetic disposition of rocks making rose windows that testify the kind of work that the Inkas had.
Tarawasi has two platforms: the first one is also the biggest one and more important one is composed by three walls, a frontal one, and two lateral ones. The main wall is laid from east to west, the front side is pointing out to the north, and the longitude of this beautiful wall is 100.90 meters, and in its extremes there are edges bended that create walls that run along and it chose laterally a roomy rectangular rampart.
The smaller platform is built over the previous one, but the difference on this one is that the front is much smaller because it only has about 37.06 meters.
How to get to Tarawasi?
It is located in the km. 2 of the east route to Limatambo, it takes 2 hours from Cusco by bus, to get there you could take a Private Tour as an special request of any travel agency or you could take a bus which will take you to Abancay, if you leave Cusco early in the morning, you can visit the ruins and return to Cusco on the afternoon; bus (passing between 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.).
