With the name of vilcabamba is known a ridge that rises over the 6000 meters above sea level and it acts as a divining wall between the departments of Cusco and Apurimac. Besides being a place that has an abundant fauna and flora, the region covers and houses very interesting and not so well known archeological remains like Espíritu Pampa, Rosaspata, Choquepalta, and Yuracrumi (white stone) and many others, all discover by Hiram Bingham after finding the citadel of Machu Picchu. It’s believed that these archeological places were places were the Incas that became the revels resisted the conquistadors between 1536 and 1572.
To access Vilcabamba one must go on a long journey but very spectacular is about 44 miles from the short cut in the route of Quillabamba and to access this asphalt road that has spectacular scenery of the Vilcabamba River going over the towns of Huayurran (a curious simile of a quechua word with a English phrase that means “why do you run?”, Yupanca (31 miles, 8,366 feet above sea level), Pucyura and Huancacalle (44 miles).
Another way to get there is to start from Quillabamba (access from Cusco all by road), by any truck to reach Yupanca, Pucyura and Huancalle (an average time of 10 hrs.). Click in the following tourist places to get information:

In this area there is a great number of archeological remains that date from the pre-Inca and Inca times, like the archeological remains of Rosaspata-Vitkos that is located to the southeast of the national territory.
