Engineers and technicians conducted a study to evaluate the damage and found 8 critical points between Cusco – Machu Picchu product of the heavy rains that affect the region of Cusco.
The railway suffered a bottler Vilcanota River which reached levels never before recorded, 1100 cubic centimeters per second, which cause to collapse in several places.
The rehabilitation work of the track will be held in 3 stages. The first part will comprise the Hydroelectric – Machu Picchu and will take at least 3 weeks. The second stage will include the route Piscacucho – Machu Picchu, take a period of 7 weeks. Finally the third stage will include the stretch of Ollantaytambo – Piscacucho which takes about 8 weeks. Everything is subject to weather’s conditions if they are favorable.
