The Warachicuy is a party, a celebration that takes place every year in the Sacsayhuaman in Cusco.

In “The Royal Commentaries” of the Inca Chaski, is entered with precision and detail each stage, each and every moment of this ceremony of initiation into adult life

They receive recognition with delivery of the “waras” which are about cleats of flannel that only men can use to transform into the insignia of the age of majority.

Although it is a historical feast, newly in 1969 performed for the first time, involving more than 1500 young students from the National College of Sciences of the Cusco

In the old Tahuantinsuyo, social discipline, military success would have been achieved through this competition that goes beyond sports. The Warachicuy is a sacred rite and a commitment to everything that represented the identity of their own culture

The tests are real and they require concentration, strength, balance, skill and speed mental to circumvent the risks and dangers of height or fire.

At present, the ritual of Warachicuy, which is performed in September, continues the tradition of other battles rituals ancestral cusco as the Chieraje.

Brings together such a large quantity of visitors that it is necessary to organize the influx of spectators as occurs with the Inti Raymi. And that is that the whole esplanade becomes a set of tests which simultaneously occur and that one would like to see them on time. The color, the sounds of pututus, dances warriors complete the spectacular deployment.

How to avoid a village empty of tourists? The Cusco chamber of tourism has recently updated a plan it originally proposed to the regional government in 2009: a project outlining the construction of four alternative access routes to the world wonder, three of which would be feasible to implement before the centennial this July.
The plan estimates that these new paths would cost around $78 million overall, but an initial investment of $5 million would be enough for tourists who arrive during the upcoming high season, which begins in June, to be able to use at least three.
One proposed route is the road along Cusco-Limatambo-Mollepata-Santa Teresa-Hidroeléctrica de Machu Picchu. According to Valencia, the road is paved up to Limatambo. To habilitate it would require leveling the piece between Mollepata and Machu Picchu. “An investment of about $3 million,” he said.

In order to pave the entire road, the cost would rise to approximately $70 million. This option would reduce the arrival time to Machu Picchu to two and a half hours from Cusco, since it would be a distance of only 150 kilometers.

Another alternative would be to follow the route Cusco-Ollantaytambo-Abra de Málaga-Santa Teresa-Hidroeléctrica de Machu Picchu, a route already used in the dry season. The new proposal is to construct a lift to allow travelers to cross over the hydroelectric power station, which would cost about $3 million.

Perhaps the most feasible new route would be to take advantage of the network of Inca trails and pave certain segments that branch off from the main road at kilometers 113.5, 115, 117 and 119. This would require an investment of only $2 million, according to the report.

This area contains terraces, waterways, inca trail, flora and fauna. New sector will be ready in a year to receive visitors
The specialists of the Ministry of Culture Cusco (formerly INC) find no written references Inkarakay, Inca site that until recently lay hidden in the dark side of the mountain Huayna Picchu, Cusco. Inkaraqay, near the site known as Eastern Andenes (on the east side of the mountain Machu Picchu) will be integrated into the tourist circuit of the Archaeological Park.

Workers and professionals found four sources of water ritual while conducting research in this sector. Piedad Champi, resident archaeologist of the work, said that the main source of water ritual has carved stone blocks on its sides, and water harvesting is done through an nca canal ends in a sand trap system by the method of overflow.
The four fonts are religious cult of water, because the Andean worldview water symbolizes the masculine and feminine Pachamama.
Archaeologists have divided into five sectors, each of which is lower than the previous one to ensure variety of microclimates.
historian Mariana Mould de Pease says that “it is essential that they become more archaeological research, but they must have a management plan to consider from studios to welcome visitors.”

The “Chincana Chica” is about 150 meters northeast of the famous slide of Sacsayhuaman, is narrow, low, and of course small. The “Chincana Grande”, is located about two hundred meters away from the “Chincana Chica” and is not accessible, since it is closed. There are several myths about this known to the locals; some say it has underground tunnels connecting Sacsayhuaman, the Cathedral of Cusco, and even the Temple of Santo Domingo – Qorikancha.
The story goes that one day many years ago, by the calculations would be the beginning of this century; it said that two daring students – in some versions of two young men speaking Spanish – are other Americans, decided to break the mystery of Sacsayhuaman and ventured to enter the galleries of the “Chincana Grande”.
This time the boys took ropes and sails it into the maze of alleyways, was said to falls and steep descents. According to legend one of the doors came to Qoricancha (Qori means gold and Cancha means site) in the Temple of the Sun, now the Convent of Santo Domingo. It is said that there were places where the Incas hid the treasures of the temple at the greed of the Spanish and sealed the entrances.

In his desire to find the truth of many heard myths and what happened on the way we will never know, but after two to three months, when parents and friends its had given up for dead, one of them managed to reach a grated door of the convent of Santo Domingo, near the altar. He had aged considerably and sporting a shaggy beard, … as if they had been years since the start of his strange journey. Something that left impacted on all who saw the strange object was carrying in his hands, a huge corn (cob) of solid gold. Since this post had been sealed and no one knew where I was driving, before they could cut the bars, the young died.
Since then, the Chincana entries are closed. Now from time to time circulate stories of tourists missing after entering a desire to get rich, and then not ever leaving.

Some chroniclers leave us your testimonials:

Agnelio Oliva (1542-1572): Jesuit Father tells us: “Huayna Capac built new buildings and large he is credited with building the underground maze called Chincana, which had outputs maze border roads, bridges, forts and other buildings.”

Fray Martin de Morua (1590): Mercy Father says: “Captain Ausi Topa, son of the famous Topa Inca Yupanqui, as mandated by his father, made a way under the ground in the strength of this city of Cuzco to the Qoricancha that was where they had the oratory temple of the sun and moon and all other huacas they worshiped. Because when they come, are lost and can’t find his way. The Inca sent to close “the Chincana” so that no one enter, lest they fall and perish. ”

General History of the Jesuits (1600): In the history of the Jesuits, it is mentioned that in building the Church of the Company, met with a number of difficulties: “Because the land that was part of the house was filled with a basement or springs that once formed a lake or swamp, which the Incas extracting the water drained into the river Huatanay.
To repair such great difficulties, the builders had to do a lot of underground works, using planks and mud walls and a large amount of tiles and carved stones taken out of the fortress and other buildings and walls of the Incas.

All this work was done without touching the famous cave of Cusco Chincana called by the Indians, which the Inca kings were very deep and runs through the city, with his entry into the fortress of Sacsayhuaman and low overhead on the side of the hill where the parish of San Cristóbal and many states will give depth and out to what is now Santo Domingo, which as stated was the famous temple of Qoricancha”
“All Indians say who have informed me that the Incas made this cave costly and laborious to wartime when the Kings were in Sacsayhuaman or fortress with all his people and army, could safely and without being perceived, go to the Temple of the Sun and worship, and offer incense and sacrifices and communicated with him the state of war and the things of the king’s government.”

Garcilaso de la Vega (1609): Garcilaso de la Vega (Royal Commentaries of the Incas, 1609) explains:
“A network of underground passages, as long as the towers themselves, were all connected. The system was composed of streets and avenues starting in all directions, all with identical doors. It was so complicated that even the bravest ventured into the maze without an orientation, consisting of a coil of rope or thick rope attached to the front door to be unwound as they were moving through the tunnels. When I was child I used to go to the fort with the boys of my age, but we dared not go far, staying in places where there was sunlight, because we were very afraid of losing, after hearing all the stories that Indians told us about the place …”
“Some of the tunnels came to Cusco, three miles away, communicating with Qoricancha and other buildings. Other tunnels inside the heart of the Andes, leading without knowing where exactly. ”

Antonio de la Calancha (1635): ….. The Incas built a road below ground for more than ten blocks, all carved which connected the fortress with the Temple of the Sun. This underground was called “The Chincana” that is the same as saying, where they are lost or hidden or maze.

This initiative involves a significant time savings for visitors, to avoid queues forming on existing outlets, as well as better control and minimize instances of potential fraud.

“The idea is that the system is similar to buying a plane ticket. The Internet purchase, printed at home and will certainly enjoy the trip,” said Juan Julio Garcia, director of the National Institute of Culture (INC) in Cusco.
In addition, He commented that it is waiting to formalize an agreement with the Banco de la Nación (BN), through which tourists would make payments with credit cards or cash.

As we know, nowadays there are now three points of sale of tickets to visit Machu Picchu: the gateway to the citadel, the town of Machu Picchu, also known as Aguas Calientes and local San Bernardo, which attend in office hours.
