Jogging at Machu Picchu [english]

helard

As a runner, Kathy Zanath was a late bloomer.

She was 45 when she ran her first marathon in Dublin, Ireland. Since then, her running resume has grown, reading like an accomplished long-distance runner’s list with more than 20 marathons completed.

She said her goal is to compete in a full Iron Man: 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and a 26.2-mile run.

But first she will tackle one of the most challenging runs on the planet: the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, a 27.5-mile marathon that follows the original pilgrimage trail that leads into the religious capital of the Inca Empire. With archaeological sites and the Spanish colonial period as its backdrop, the run on Thursday covers mountain terrain at altitudes of 8,000 to almost 14,000 feet.
