Machu Picchu’s pieces will return to Peru by the end of the month [english]

The first batch of pieces of Machu Picchu in the possession of Yale University will come to Peru later this month, said Foreign Minister Jose Antonio Garcia Belaunde.
He said that this first installment consists of 363 pieces and come to Peru between 29 and 31 March.
He also said that, as agreed with the American university, the return process will proceed in three stages, as the first mentioned.
The second batch will reach in December this year, while the third is scheduled for 2012.

Ancient Cusco: Photo Presentation [english]

Residents and tourists were captivated today with exposure of 126 photographs of the city of Cusco in the decades 20 and 40, organized by the National Institute of Culture (INC) near the plaza “Rococijo”, as part of the activities for International Day of World Heritage Cities Solidarity.
The records of the prestigious anthropologist and historian Luis E. Valcárcel of the Plaza de Armas, the churchs: “Compañia de Jesús” , “Santo Domingo” and “La Merced”, the procession of the”Señor de los Temblores” ( Lord of the Earthquakes) and aerial views of the city were included in the sample.
Images of the streets and houses of San Pedro neighborhoods, San Cristobal, San Blas and Carmenca, before the earthquake of 50 were also shown.
The regional director of the INC, Juan Julio Garcia, recalled that with Cusco Arequipa and Lima on the list of cities declared as Cultural Heritage Site by Unesco, and to celebrate the authorization was sought from the display of the images to the Photo Gallery INC Lima.

General Commanders visited Machu Picchu [english]

A group of commanding generals of the armies of fifteen countries concluded on August 30 their participation in the activities for the fiftieth anniversary of the Conference of American Armies in the Imperial City, an event that is hosted by Peru, during 2010 and 2011 .

Representatives from Peru, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, United States, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Trinidad and Tobago, Paraguay, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Canada.

Senior military commanders on his last day working visited monuments such as the Cristo Blanco in Cusco, Sacsayhuaman, the temple Koricancha, Machu Picchu, among others.

Los Quipus [Español]

El quipu (quechua: khipu, ‘nudo’ ) fue un sistema nemotécnico mediante cuerdas de lana o

algodón y nudos de uno o varios colores desarrollado en los Andes. Si bien se sabe que fue usado como un sistema de contabilidad por los funcionarios del Imperio inca, podría haber sido usado como una forma de escritura, hipótesis que sostiene el ingeniero William Burns Glynn.

Los utilizaban los quipu kamayoc (khipu kamayuq), sabios del imperio inca.
Los quipus formaban un sistema mnemotécnico mediante el cual se registraba la información necesaria. Podía tratarse de noticias censales, de montos de productos y de subsistencias conservadas en los depósitos estatales.
Los quipus se siguen usando como instrumentos mnemotécnicos en los poblados indígenas donde sirven para registrar los productos de las cosechas y los animales de las comunidades.
El emperador inca, tenía hasta 30 personas en las grandes ciudades encargadas de llevarle las cuentas, luego los mensajeros los llevaban al emperador quien tenía funcionarios especializados en la interpretación de los quipu.
Se cree que la posición de los nudos en el cordón podría interpretarse como un sistema matemático decimal. Por ejemplo, contando desde la punta, se encontraría el nudo equivalente al 10,000, luego 1,000, 100, y finalmente las unidades.

New Routes: Cusco – Brazil and Chiclayo – Ecuador [english]

Star Perú will connect Cusco with Brazil starting in September, with the route Cusco-Rio Branco, said the airline’s general manager, Roman Kasianov.

Also, the airline plans to start operating the Chiclayo-Cuenca (Ecuador) route by November, and to add the Iquitos-Leticia (Colombia) route in December.

“We expect these new regional routes to dynamize the participation of the company in the market, since no other national airline has done this before,” said Kasianov.

Timetable for admission to Machu Picchu [english]

The director of the INC Cusco, Juan Julio Garcia Rivas, reported that it has arranged to regulate the entry of domestic and foreign visitors to the historic sanctuary of Machu Picchu and Waynapicchu area in order to safeguard the archaeological and the firm commitment to order the entry of visitors, as in other places declared in the title of the wonder of the world.

The timetables are valid from date:

Pedestrian Road (Ruinas Bridge) From 05:00 am
Entry to Machu Picchu From 06:00 am
First entry to Waynapicchu (200 people) At 07:00 am
Second entry to Waynapicchu (200 people) At 10:00 am

Horarios para el ingreso al Santuario de Machu Picchu [español]

El director del Instituto Nacional de Cultura del Cusco, Juan Julio García Rivas, informó que se ha dispuesto reglamentar el ingreso de los visitantes nacionales y extranjeros al santuario histórico de Machupicchu y la zona de Waynapicchu con la finalidad de salvaguardar el complejo arqueológico y con el firme compromiso de ordenar el ingreso de los visitantes, como ocurre en otros centros declarados con el título de la maravilla del mundo.

Los horarios que están en vigencia a partir de la fecha:

Camino Peatonal (puente Ruinas) A partir de 05:00 am
Ingreso a Machu Picchu A partir de 06:00 am
Ingreso al Waynapicchu (1er ingreso – 200 personas) A las 07:00 am
Ingreso al Waynapicchu (2do ingreso – 200 personas) A las 10:00 am

The Ten Tenors at Machu Picchu [english]

Australian vocalists the Ten Tenors are planning to visit Peru’s famed Machu Picchu ruins after performing in Lima next month.

The internationally renowned Australian group is set to return to Peru for an exclusive show at Lima’s Jockey Club del Perú on Saturday, September 11.

The Ten Tenors, who performed in Peru for the first time in September 2009, are also keen to learn more about the country’s music history, customs and cuisine, especially fish and seafood dishes.
