The Cock of the Rock is a native of South America, in the forests of the high jungle of Peru. In Peru is also known as Tunqui (in Quechua Language).

This species has a large sexual dimorphism, as the male and female have very different physical. The male is of medium size, with a special colored plumage that combines the black, red and silver. The female, however, has a very dull plumage, brownish tones dominated.
